What is more comforting than ordering Chinese food, getting cosy on the sofa and watching your favourite movie or TV series? The spicy noodles, mouth-watering dim sums and a flavourful platter make for a delicious meal.
With a lip-smacking taste of the Chinese cuisine, the dishes also come with lots of oil, salt and processed ingredients that are not good for health. No matter how delicious the food is, you cannot escape the unhealthy ingredients.
What Does The Nutritionist Say?
In an interview with the Brides Today, Ryan Fernando, Founder of Qua Nutrition and celebrity nutritionist, said, “Authentic Chinese food is not high in calories and is healthy because of the large number of vegetables used and lower amount of meat used. However, as Chinese took this concept to the world, and it entered the fast-food space, the sauces got more sugary and salty.”
How To Order Chinese Food?
Order Clear Soup
A clear soup comes without the addition of cornflour, which is rich in calorie count. It makes the dish thick. However, Ryan recommends ordering a clear soup first instead of starters. Then you can proceed to a heavier course meal.
Brown Rice Is Healthier Than Noodles
If you have to choose carbohydrates between delicious noodles and amazing rice, one must always go with brown rice. Ryan says, “Rice is a whole grain as opposed to noodles made with refined flour. It doesn’t bloat you. Steamed brown rice is your best option.” If you love to eat noodles, the better choice is rice-based noodles with a large portion of vegetables.
Choose Beverages Carefully
Since Chinese food has a good amount of salt, people often crave sweet drinks. This is where most of us make the mistake. According to Ryan, “Get jasmine or green tea, add it to ice-cold water and keep sipping. This will keep your cravings in check.”
Choose Steamed Dumplings That Have Thinner Cover
Steams dumplings are healthier than fried ones for obvious reasons. A steamed dim sum contains only a 30-40 calorie count. People watching for their weight must choose a vegetarian option over meat.
According to Lovneet Batra, Founder of Nutrition by Lovneet and clinical nutritionist, it is always healthy to choose dumplings with thinner coatings of starch and potato. They are better than the thick dim sum with refined flour.
Vegetables Are Healthy
Most Chinese dishes contain buckchoy and black beans that taste like cabbage and contain negative calories, and you need to balance that count. One can choose beans, broccoli and bell peppers, rich in fibre and fulfilling.
You can also choose the style of preparation. Dishes cooked in a clay pot or when they are stir-fried require less amount of oil for cooking. For protein content, you can also add tofu and relish a complete meal.

Make Careful Choices While Picking Sauces
Sauces are crucial to Chinese cuisine because vegetables, meats and almost every recipe are incomplete with them. They add flavours to the dish. Lovneet suggests choosing chilli garlic, black bean and light soy sauces are healthier over sweet sauces like honey mustard.
