We recently spoke to Celebrity Nutritionist Shweta Shah who has worked with popular celebrities like Katrina Kaif, Geeta Basra among others and she shared that one common reason behind joint pain can be an unhealthy gut. She shared that an imbalance in the gut can lead to joint pain.
How Is Joint Pain Related To Gut Health?
The expert shared, she said, "When you eat healthy, we have an impression that our health will improve. Therefore, when we eat food that is rich in calcium, we feel our task is done and our body will never experience calcium deficiency. But that’s not true. Even though you eat healthy but your gut is not in a position to absorb the nutrients then it might not help. There your gut heath becomes so important. It helps your body effectively absorb the nutrients from the food you eat and take it to the different parts of the body. So, from now on remember you are what you absorb and don’t only focus on eating healthy but also keep your gut health in a position that it can absorb the nutrients.!"
Diet To Reduce Joint Pain

The expert shared that it is important to create a healthy environment for gut bacteria and improve microbiota/gut flora in the stomach. She said, for the same, one needs to follow the 3 steps - remove, replace and restore.
Remove Food That Leads To Inflammation
The expert shared that to improve digestion, one must avoid foods that lead to inflammation. Try to remove all inflammatory triggers from your diet like stress and certain food items like sugar, omega 6 fatty acids, refined carbs, MSG, gluten and casein, saturated fat, trans fat, vegetable oil, and alcohol.
Replace Processed Food With Unprocessed Food
She shared that one must replace processed foods with unprocessed foods as they will help in help inefficient absorption of nutrients. The expert suggested the consumption of whole foods like Some of them are tomatoes, olive oil, nuts, green leafy vegetables, fruits such as oranges, cherries, blueberries, and strawberries.
Restore Healthy Bacteria In The Gut
The last step is to restore the healthy bacteria in your gut. For this, one needs to consume high-quality probiotics, prebiotics: nondigestible fiber compounds which are commonly found in garlic, onions, leeks, raw dandelion greens, bone broth, curcumin etc.
Before making these foods a part of your diet, it is important to understand that your body type. If you are intolerant to any of these foods then you should completely avoid them. If you are under medication or treatment, make sure you consult your doctor.
