Momos today are available in a wide variety in the market but to be honest, there is nothing like having some hot, steamed momos with hot, spicy momos sauce.

How To Make Steamed Momos Dough?

You Will Need - 

  • Refined Flour Or Maida
  • Water 
  • Oil
  • Salt


  • Begin with sifting the refined flour and salt together. 
  • Transfer to a bowl and add some oil to it. 
  • Mix well till the oil blends well. 
  • Keep adding little water to the bowl to make the dough.
  • Make sure you knead the dough for a long time. This will give you a soft dough which will help you prepare softer momos. 
  • Cover the dough. 
  • Let the momos dough rest for about 30 minutes. 

How To Make Steamed Momos Filling?

For the vegetable filling of your steamed momos, you can pick any veggies of your choice. Some regular options include - 

  • Cabbage
  • Carrot
  • Capsicum
  • Onion
  • Ginger
  • Garlic
  • Green Chillies
  1. Begin with finely chopping all the vegetables. 
  2. In a pan, add some oil.
  3. Add all the vegetables and saute on medium flame. 
  4. Make sure you don't saute the veggies for too long or the vegetables will lose their crunch. 
  5. Switch off the heat. 
  6. Season the vegetables will salt and black pepper powder
  7. Let the filling cool.

Mistakes To Avoid While Making Steamed Momos

  • Make sure you don't overfill the momos stuffing in the dough or it can make the momos break. 
  • Don't overcook the vegetable or they will lose their crunch and become too moist. 
  • Always grease the momos stand with some oil to prevent sticking of momos.
  • Never over fill the pressure cooker or steam cooker with water. The water should always be till the lowest tier of the momos stand. 

How To Make Vegetable Steamed Momos At Home?

Ingredients Required -

  • 2 Cups Maida Or Refined Wheat Flour
  • Salt As Per Taste
  • Water As Required 
  • 1 Cup Chopped Carrot
  • 1 Cup Chopped Capsicum
  • 1 Cup Chopped Cabbage
  • 1 Cup Chopped Onions
  • 1 Tsp Chopped Garlic
  • 1 Tsp Chopped Ginger
  • Green Chillies (Optional)

Directions - 

  • Begin with preparing a dough for the momos. 
  • In a bowl, add refined flour, salt and water. Knead a soft dough. 
  • Finely chop all the vegetables. 
  • In a pan, add some oil and add in the vegetables. 
  • Saute the vegetables for 5 minutes. Take off flame and let them cool.
  • Divide the momos dough into small balls. 
  • Using a rolling pin, roll out small circles. 
  • Stuff the filling inside the dough and fold up the ends together in the shape of a modak.
  • If you don't have a momos steam stand, use your pressure cooker or idli maker stand. 
  • Grease idli maker with some oil. 
  • Place the momos on the stand.
  • Fill the pressure cooker with some water. Bring to heat. 
  • Position the idli stand inside the pressure cooker. 
  • Make sure the water isn't over filled. 
  • The water shouldn't be more than the first tier of the idli stand. 
  • Lock the lid of the pressure cooker. Remove the whistle from the pressure cooker. 
  • Let the momos steam in the cooker for about 15 minutes. 
  • After 15 minutes, check if the momos have cooked well. 
  • Open the pressure cooker lid and take out the idli stand. 
  • Serve hot steamed vegetables with chilli sauce. 

How To Make Momos Chilli Sauce?

Soft and tasty steamed momos are incomplete without some hot chilli sauce on the side. This chilli sauce can be prepared using just a few ingredients.

Ingredients Required - 

  • 25 Grams Whole Red Chillies 
  • 1/2 Cup Oil
  • 100 Grams Peeled Garlic
  • Salt As Per Taste

Directions - 

  • In a blender, add all the ingredients and grind to make a smooth paste. 
  • Serve with hot momos.
