If you are a fan of South Indian breakfast, try this upma recipe at home. This tasty upma also makes a good option for your office lunch.

Ingredients Required

  • Oil As Required
  • 1 Tsp Mustard Seeds
  • 1 Tsp Cumin Seeds
  • Handful Of Curry Leaves
  • 1 Tbsp Chana Dal
  • 1 Tbsp Urad Dal
  • 1 Tsp Moong Dal
  • 1 Chopped Onion
  • 2 Tbsp Ginger and Garlic Paste
  • 1 Chopped Tomato
  • 1/4 Tsp Chilli Powder
  • 2 Tbsp Grated Coconut
  • 1 Cup Bajra Or Pearl Millet
  • 1-2 Cups Chopped Vegetables

Directions

  1. In a non-stick pan, dry roast bajra on low flame. Cool and then soak in 2 cups of water for 2 hours.
  2. In a pressure cooker, add some oil, mustard seeds and cumin seeds.
  3. Once the seeds crackle, add dals, ginger garlic paste, onions, green chilli and curry leaves. Saute.
  4. Next add all the tomatoes, vegetables and spices.
  5. Now add the soaked bajra along with the water and cook for about a minute.
  6. Next, add coconut and two cups of water.
  7. Pressure cook for two whistles. Serve hot.

Bajra Khichdi

Light yet filling, this bajra khichdi is all you need on long working days.

Ingredients Required

  • 1/2 Cup Bajra Or Pearl Millet (Soaked Overnight)
  • 1/2 Cup Yellow Moong Dal
  • Salt To Taste
  • 1 Tbsp Ghee
  • 1 Tsp Cumin Seeds
  • 1/2 Tsp Asafoetida Or Hing
  • 1/4 Tsp Turmeric Powder

Directions

  • In a pressure cooker, add soaked bajra, moong dal and two cups of water. Cook for four whistles.
  • In a non-stick pan, add some ghee and cumin seeds.
  • Once the seeds splutter, add asafoetida, turmeric powder and cook on medium flame.
  • Add the cooked bajra and dal mix.
  • Add salt to taste and mix well.
  • Delicious and healthy bajra khichdi is ready!

Bajra Cheela Or Pancake

Winter season is here and what better than relishing some hot and fresh pancakes along with your cup of morning tea.

Ingredients Required

  • 1/2 Cup Boiled Potatoes
  • 3 Tbsp Bajra Flour
  • 1 Chopped Onion
  • Chopped Coriander Leaves
  • 1/4 Tsp Green Chilli Paste
  • 1 Tsp Roasted Cumin Seeds
  • Salt To Taste
  • Water As Required
  • Oil For Cooking

Directions

  1. In a bowl, add boiled potatoes, bajra flour, onions, chopped coriander leaves, chilli paste, cumin seeds and salt to taste.
  2. Spread some oil on a non-stick pan and pour a spoonful of batter.
  3. Cook the cheela or pancake from both sides till golden brown.
  4. Serve hot.
