A lot of people rely on lemons to lose weight and to detoxify their bodies but there is not much clarity on if this truly works? While everything has its benefits, it also comes with certain types of risks. Before we let you in on its details, please consult your doctor before you get into it.

Now, this detox diet means you have to consume just a lemon juice-based mixture for 1 or 2 weeks, with no solid foods. What this diet does is to remove toxins and cleanse the body. However, there is no hardcore evidence to support these claims. Also, this diet can be harmful in some cases. In this diet, the intent is to remove alcohol, drugs, or other toxins from your body. People who have followed this diet say that this improves your skin and digestion and promotes energy and weight loss. Let's see what truly happens.

How Does It Work?

A lemon detox diet may not help in removal of toxins but some individuals do feel refreshed and re-energised after having it. The diet causes weight loss because it is about extreme calorie restriction. There has been a study on Korean women where they found that a 7-day lemon detox diet led to a reduction in body fat. But this way is not healthy.  And also when you will resume eating your normal diet, you will gain weight quickly.

How It May Not Help?

This diet will not enhance any of the natural body processes and may hinder them. What you all know is that without a balanced diet, your body will not receive the nutrients and energy it needs to function properly. This includes removing toxins and waste products. This diet will miss out on the fiber which plays an important role in digestion as it supports the large intestines and influencing metabolism. Without fiber, the large intestine cannot remove toxins and waste products properly.

How To Go About It

  • 2 tbsps of lemon juice
  • 2 tbsps of maple syrup
  • Cayenne pepper
  • Water

Just mix these ingredients and sip on it for a few days or for a few weeks. Some people say it is easier to cut solids over the days, slowly before switching to an entirely liquid diet. On the other hand, some people also include herbal laxative in the diet.

In the end, do not start a diet like this on your own, do consult the doctor!
