Personalised stuff such as mugs and t-shirts are very trendy these days. Not only do they make the perfect gift items, but they also become great for personal use. So, what if we told you that you can print your mugs and t-shirts easily anytime at home?
Well yes, you can and that also on a limited budget. So, take a look.
Things You Need For Printing
For making a DIY printed T-shirt and mug, there are a bunch of things that you will need, a couple of heat transfer sheets, a printer, computer software that inverts the graphics, scissors, and an iron. These things will help you achieve that professional level print on your t-shirt or mug. The heat transfer sheets are available at all stationery stores and you can get them easily. Further, we need the inverting software for our image that we want to print, so as to make it appear straight and not laterally inverted after printing. So, select your image for the t- and a longer almost 16x9 size image for the mug as it would go around the entire mug.
How Does It Work?
Talking about how printing actually works, what happens is when the heat transfer sheet comes in contact with heat from a source such as the iron it starts separating from the base layer of paper that it is stuck on. And this transfers to the surface of your t-shirt or mug instantly. Some precautions that you need to keep in mind while printing is to be careful while using the iron, or even touching the backside of the heat transfer paper as they might be very hot and may cause burns on your skin. So, now that you are aware of how things work, let's see how you can make a DIY (how to make a DIY table cover)t-shirt or a mug.
How To Print A T-Shirt
Printing a t-shirt is not such a difficult process and can be done easily. Although you need to be very careful about how you are carrying the process forward. So, start by taking your favourite images and inverting them out. If your print is larger then crop your image into two halves, invert them and then print on two different sheets. After printing you need your basic solid t-shirt(how to dye your old t-shirt), then keep it straight and wrinkle-free on a flat surface. Place the printed paper side by side or upside down howsoever your print is like. Then using masking tape, stick all the corners and prevent them from moving from their location. Now plug in the iron and start ironing over the back of the transfer sheet keep it moving and heated to the maximum temperature. After 5-10 minutes, check if the print has been transferred to the fabric or not and continue if not.
How To Print A Mug
Mug printing is slightly more difficult and you need to be very careful while doing it. So, we go ahead to find a long picture or make a long collage of pictures within 16x9. Then you check the dimensions on the software and invert this image as well. Print the image, cut it off in the above-mentioned dimensions, and then stick on the mug using thin masking tape, now that you're done with that, start rolling over the hot iron over the transfer sheet on the mug. After 10 -15 of continuous ironing, the print will get transferred to the plain mug.
Voila, you're done!
