How Much Time Is Required to Prepare for a Marathon?
D’Souza says that there is no specific amount of time for the training. However, he suggests that a person who has never run after school or college, should not immediately think about running a marathon.
Can A Person Join A Marathon Without Training?
Our expert says that one must not even think about it. Running in itself is a gradual process. First, you learn to walk, then you learn to walk faster, you jog, and at the last, you run.
Therefore, if you have not been keeping fit, walking or jogging every day, you must not register yourself for a marathon.
What Age Is Considered Healthy To Run A Marathon?
Tata Mumbai Marathon has various categories under which you can register. However, D’Souza says that there is no right age to run a marathon. A 45-year old person can be fitter than an 18-year old teen. Therefore, no age bar to run.
Is Running A Marathon Painful?
Yes. This is the case with trained as well as untrained participants. However, Savio adds that if you have never run before, you will be using the muscles that have been dormant for years. It will definitely cause a lot of pain because your body is not used to running that long or for that matter even walking.
However, in the case of a trained person or one who exercises regularly, they are used to working out and will recover quickly.
What Happens To A Body After A Marathon?
Trained people experience what is called the Runner’s High. It is a wow feeling of completing a target or achieving a goal. Along with it, the body also experiences pain and aches in muscles. If you are fit, you will recover fast.

What Is the Ideal Weight To Run A Marathon?
There is no ideal weight which can define whether you can run a marathon or not. D’Souza says that a person must be fit. As long as you have been exercising and watching what you eat, there are no specific weight criteria that you have to adhere to.

What Should You Eat Before A Marathon?
Savio D’Souza suggests drinking warm water in the morning or tea with toast. After some time, you can have a light breakfast. Though one should also carry a banana to the venue and eat it half an hour or 45 minutes before the race starts.
It gives you energy. You can also keep dates, jaggery, chocolate (are chocolate good for health?) and raisins in your pocket. These food items are sources for inducing glucose slowly into the body. If you need, you should take sips of water in the middle of the race rather than gulping a bottle down your throat.
What Should You Not Do After A Marathon?
A couple of things that Savio D’Souza suggests to not do are,

- Change your diet a few days before the marathon
- Have hard drinks like rum and whiskey
- Not getting plenty of rest on Thursday and Friday. Since the marathon is on Sunday, anxiety might keep you awake on Saturday.
- Eating junk food on Saturday night or the morning of the marathon
- Taking biscuits to the venue. They can make your mouth feel dry and drain your energy.
