For obvious reasons, the reproductive health of any human is of grave importance. It becomes even more crucial when we speak about a woman. Apart from procreation, your reproductive health is important for your overall well-being.
From hormonal balance to mental health, your reproductive system can have an impact on your entire body. We connected with Dr Chetna Jain, Director Department of Obstetrics and gynaecology, Cloudnine Group of Hospitals, Sector 14, Gurugram, to understand six reproductive health issues that women must not ignore.
Abnormal Vaginal Bleeding
Dr Jain suggested one must ignore abnormal vaginal bleeding. It could be a sign of a disease. If you are bleeding earlier or later than the menstruation date, it is a sign that you need to consult the gynaecologist.
Many women experience it due to lesions on the cervix. The doctor will check if the blood is coming from the uterus or an ovarian cyst. It could also be a fibroid. There are other reasons that could be the leading cause of unexpected vaginal bleeding.
Missed Periods
If you have missed periods, you need to immediately consult a doctor. If you are sexually active and in the reproductive age group, the expert will conduct a pregnancy test.
If pregnancy has been ruled out, the doctor will go ahead with an ultrasound and blood tests to rule out our diseases and confirm that internal reproductive organs are fine.
Abnormal Vaginal Discharge
If the vaginal discharge smells funny or has a brown, green, or yellow colour, you need to consult a doctor for it. Another symptom could be itchiness in the genitals.
The expert will check for infections and ensure that your health is okay. Depending on the diagnosis and symptoms, they will start the treatment.
Abdominal or Pelvic Pain
If you experience pain in the pelvic area, you should meet a gynaecologist. They will conduct a thorough examination to understand your medical and family history to help give you an accurate diagnosis.
They will prescribe a few tests to understand the reason behind the pain. The reason behind it could be the absence of periods, called menorrhoea. The symptoms can be abnormal bleeding or discharge.

A common practice that women adopt is doing a breast examination at home. If you feel a lump in your breasts, it could be a sign of breast cancer. The doctor will check it and confirm.
The examination and tests will also help the doctor verify the nature of the lump. If the news is bad and detected early, it can be cured.
