Often we are recommended to have fruit or vegetable juice and smoothies for good health but have you wondered what is the difference between the two and which one is better? In a juice, we have the extracts but in a smoothie, the entire fruit is consumed. But what is more nutritious? Scroll down to understand the difference.
Juicing
When we extract the juice of vegetables and fruits, we leave behind the fiber in them. We consume the vitamins and nutrients in a more concentrated form. It helps in easier absorption of nutrients. The catch comes in when some fruits have more sugar content than sodas.
Blending
When we blend fruits and vegetables, all the fiber retained makes the digestion process very healthy. They also contain antioxidants and are more filling. This is why some people prefer smoothies over juices.

Fiber
The missing fiber in juices is one huge drawback as that improves digestion. However, some fruits like carrots, apples, beans and citrus fruits have soluble fiber which dissolves well in water so they help in slowing down the process of digestion and also manage blood sugar levels. The fiber left out in juices but well utilised in smoothies is excellent in stimulating out intestines and make them active.
Nutrient
Juices contain more nutrients in a concentrated form and they can be easily absorbed. A bulk of the necessary minerals and vitamins present in a fruit are extracted in a juice. Blended fruits do not just have fiber in them. In some fruits like grapefruit, when we blend them, a higher concentration of the beneficial compound is present as that compound is mostly found in the fibrous membranes of the fruit.

Digestion
Those who love juices more believe that when we have whole fruits and vegetables which are devoid of fiber, it gives a break to our body from the hard work that our organs have to through when it comes to digestion. It is also believed by some that it makes the absorption of nutrients way better.
Sometimes it also depends upon your health condition. Certain diseases, especially when you suffer from malabsorptive conditions, low residue diets, and low-fiber is recommended. This is when juicing becomes the preference. People who keep fasts as well prefer juices since fiber messes up with their digestion.
Filling
Juices are hydrating for sure but they do not satiate your hunger whereas blending is basically smoothie which has fiber so that makes it perfect for filling you up and also controls cravings.
In the end, many experts recommend that you have the whole fruit rather than their liquid forms. However, if weight loss is not a concern then smoothies are way better.
