Doctors usually advice that consumption of tea/coffee or any beverage with added sugar should be reduced which means that any herbal tea decoction that you drink should be sugarless. Dr. Raj Kumar Lalwani former Senior Consultant Diabetologist at Fortis CDOC and Max Hospital, Delhi had some insights to share about how what we eat can help us manage diabetes better. He maintains that there’s no special diet for diabetes and management of this disease needs only a few dietary dos and don’ts. Eating colourful foods such as leafy greens, vegetables and fruits in reds, purples, yellows, and blues are high on nutrients which help your body, its metabolism and its disease fighting capacity. Green tea is positioned these days as an elixir that helps you lose weight and also manage diabetes but there have been no concrete studies about it. Consumption of green tea can help the gut bacteria to an extent which can impact the diabetic patients but a lot more research needs to be done on this as well.
