Some food combinations don't go well with each other and they may cause more harm to the body like slow digestion, bloating, and make you feel tired. To know more on this, we spoke to Preety Tyagi, In house Nutritionist/ Dietician who told us about the combinations that should be avoided.These food combinations include-

Banana and Milk

Although milk and banana is a popular breakfast combination, it is advised not to mixthem. The combination of these two is heavy, so it takes longer to digest. This combination may cause the body to feel heavy and the mind to slow down.

Although if you want to take it, then you should add a pinch of nutmeg or cinnamon in it.

Pasta and Tomato

Many people consider tomato and pasta to be one of the most favourite combinations, so it may come as a surprise to learn that this common meal isn't good for your health. Pasta is high in starch carbs, which are hard to digest.   As tomatoes are highly acidic, they interrupt in the digestion of starch which may cause bloating.

Meat and Potato

When you eat carbohydrates with protein (such as potatoes or Roti with meat), the protein begins to decompose and the carbohydrate ferments. This causes gas and bloating problems.

Tomato Soup and Cheese

The acid in tomato soup does not mix well with the dairy-based cheese, which may result in stomach ache.  It's not considered a good idea to eat both of them at the same time because it's difficult to digest.

Beans and Paneer

This is a very common combination in Mexican cuisine- Cheese, beans, hot sauce and guacamole. But these together can cause bloating, gas and other digestive problems. However, according to popular belief, beans alone do not give you gas. But if your digestive system is weak then try to take paneer and beans separately.

Cereals and Orange Juice

The so-called "healthy" food combination is actually not that healthy. The starch in the cereal and the acid in the orange juice have a tendency to make you sick. Citrus of any kind is advised not to be combined with starchy foods like cereal. 

Yoghurt and Fruits

When acidic fruit comes into contact with yoghurt, it depletes digestive fibres and produces toxins, which can cause cold and allergies. There are different enzyes present in fruits and yoghurt. Therefore, when consumed together, they have difficulty in getting digested. Although you can have raisins, cinnamon and honey occasionally in fruit raita, but it should be avoided on a regular basis.

Cheese and Meat

Cheesy meatballs, cheese and meat omelettes and other dishes with this combination are high in protein. It becomes very difficult to digest.

Tea and Yoghurt

Tea and yoghurt are both acidic and it's believed that combining the two could affect the body's balance, affecting digestion.

Nutritionist Preety Tyagi shared, "All these above mentioned food combinations, no matter how popular they maybe, must be avoided as they are not good for your Health. In many cases, they are responsible for causing gut health issues and discomfort such as indigestion and other digestive discomforts but in many cases, these food combinations also prevent the proper absorption of nutrients in the body. It’s best to avoid these food combinations and choose from other healthier foods combinations for optimum gut health."
