The Hindu festival of Navratri is incomplete without Kanya Pujan. This is a significant ritual of the festival and takes place on the Ashtami or Navami (8th or 9th day of the Navratri). Also known as Kumari Pujan, Kanya Pujan is a ritual where little girls, preferably 9 of them are worshipped as nine forms of Maa Durga.
Navratri Kanya Pujan Or Kanjak Date 2022
This year, Ashtami will take place on 9th April and Navami will be on 10th April.
Story Behind Kanya Pujan
There was a man named Sridhar who was a true devotee of Maa Durga. He used to live in a small village with his wife. He and his wife had no children and they kept praying to Maa Durga to bless them with a child.
This time, they thought of pleasing Maa Durga by hosting a Kanya Pujan at home. On the occasion of Navratri, they invited some girls to their home, and offered them puri, halwa, and chana. After the puja was over, all the girls went back home but one of them stayed back.
The little girl asked Sridhar and his wife to next host a big feast for the entire village and surrounding villages. The couple didn't have enough money for the same but the girl blessed them that they will be successful in doing so. When the couple hosted the feast and invited everyone, the little girl magically made all the arrangements and also blessed the couple with a child.
Thus, it is believed that performing Kanya Pujan makes Maa Durga happy and she fulfills all the wishes of her devotees.

Things To Keep In Mind
- As per Astro experts, you should always invite one boy to the Kanya Pujan. This is a remedy for especially those for whom it is difficult to conceive a child. Also, it is believed that Lord Shiva had appointed Bhairava for the protection of Adi Shakti or Maa Durga. It is therefore important to worship at least one boy in the form of Lord Bhairava along with Maa Durga.
- According to popular beliefs, it is important to feed at least 9 girls. If you are unable to invite them at home, go to a temple and offer them homemade bhog.
- Make sure the food doesn't have onion or garlic present in it.
