Must-have dishes

The must-try dish in the restaurant is the ‘Thakali Thali’, which has nine dishes in it. One of the dishes is ‘Kaalu Dal’, attributed to its black colour. Jimbu (chive-like ingredient only found in the Himalayas) and ghee is used as seasoning in the dal. Other dishes are chicken curry, fried karela (bitter gourd), dum aloo with kalonji seeds (potato with nigella seeds), saag (spinach), mooli ka achaar (radish pickle) and kundru ka achar for digestive purposes. It is a juicy, tender and a little spicy meal. Additionally, the pickles add a very nice essence.

The traditional way of eating the meal is by sitting on a carpet and on a khasa plate with your hands, instead of using any utensils. And ‘Thakali Thali’ is always served with ghee. Originally, Thakalis are the inhabitants of the Thak region of the Mustang district in Nepal.

Chicken Shapta is another luscious meal that contains sliced chicken meat and gravy made of green chillies and ginger. It is usually eaten with Tigmo (steamed bun), which has a fluffy texture. Ema Datshi is also a hearty dish to satiate your cravings. It is the national dish of Bhutan. ‘Ema’ translates to green chilly peppers and ‘Datshi’ means cheese because the gravy is made of yak cheese. Thukpa, a kind of buck-wheat noodles, is an excellent choice as well and is a healthier item as it is not made of maida. For dessert, you can opt for the Chinese sweet dish named Darsaan.
