I am blessed with naturally thin hair and that is one big reason why I pay a lot of attention to my tresses. Thin hair tends to break more and get sticky very quickly, the struggle is real.
Honestly, I don't trust many hair care products because most of them don't work for my hair. I do indulge in a lot of DIY hair care because I believe it has no side effects and can show really good results at times.
This time, my mom and I tried making a hair oil at home using natural ingredients which are believed to benefit our hair in many ways.
What All Went Into Making This Hair Oil?
To make this hair oil at home, I used:
- 2 Hibiscus Flowers
- Coconut Oil
- Fenugreek Or Methi Seeds
- Curry Leaves
- Dry Amla
How Did I Make This Oil?
I am not a fan of preparing all these hair oils in a large quantity and then keeping it stored for long term use. I like it to be made fresh everytime so I used less quanity of every ingredient according to my hair length.
I got a handful of curry leaves and 2 hibiscus flowers from my terrace garden and chopped them. This can be done roughly by your hand or using a knife.
In a small pan, I added some coconut oil according to my hair length and after it heated, I switched off the flame.
Next, I added a tsp of fenugreek seeds and dry amla. Both the ingredients are easily available in the market.
I added the hibiscus flower and curry leaves mix to the oil. They start to splutter a few seconds after you drop them in the oil.
Lastly, covered the oil for a few minutes till it completely changed colour.
How Do I Use This Hair Oil?
I always like to use my hair oil when it is a little warm. I gently massage the oil onto the roots of my hair. I usually tie my hair into a braid after applying a hair oil and use a warm towel for steam. You can skip this step if you are running short of time.
