Looking up your potential partner on social media has become a common practice among people to know more about their behaviour, personality, and lifestyle choices. Using this tactic, a woman recently saved herself from a toxic man with whom she was getting forced to get married. She shared a social media post highlighting the importance of not falling for a visibly well-paced man and practising digital checks before investing in him.
Woman Highlights The Importance Of Digital Checks Of Potential Partner Before Marriage
In a Reddit post titled: Arranged Marriage in 2025: Why Girls Need to Do a Full Digital Background Check (My Story), the woman said, "I checked everything and what I got made me realise just how dangerously unvetted some 'well-placed' men can be. I'm sharing this so more girls can learn to protect themselves."
"The guy had a professional job, and looked 'respectable', but in private? Manipulative, emotionally unstable, sending unsolicited nudes, glorifying self-harm, dismissing consent, and obsessed with controlling conversations," she added.
As per NDTV report, the woman revealed she used a friend's social media ID to chat with the man and discovered some alarming things. According to her, he sent explicit photos and casually mentioned watching porn, downplaying it as no big deal. She warned other girls not to blindly trust someone's job title or family reputation, advising them to instead dig deeper by checking digital traces like old Instagram comments to know their true nature.
The woman then blocked him right away and told this to her parents. "Stay smart. Be nosy. Protect your peace. Trust your guts if something feels off, it's off," she said.

Reddit Users’ Reactions To The Post
The post caught the attention of numerous people with one suggesting, "You can also hire a freelance Cybersecurity expert, he'll dig up a lot more than just Social Media posts/comments."
Another user said, "I second this post. The best test is to see how comfortable and willing he is in giving you his social media profiles, not the actual act of sharing itself.”
"Stay away no matter what it takes. I've seen someone go through this, and ten years later, her life is worse than a nightmare. Even her basic needs go unmet. Her family? They know everything but choose to do nothing. No one will come to save you,” said the third user.
