It's been a few months since the harrowing Manipur incident took place where two women were paraded naked and molested by a mob. The video of the horrific incident quickly went viral on the net and led to outrage in India. Just when the nation with a half-healed heart began moving towards that last glimmer of hope, another dreadful episode surfaced, this time from Rajasthan.

Decoding Rajasthan's Viral Video

In a grisly video now going viral on Twitter (now X), a man can be seen stripping a woman in front of a lot of people and then parading her naked in the village. The woman can be seen crying, preventing the man from stripping her naked. Members of her family and village can be seen just standing across and witnessing the entire episode.

The video comes from Pahada village in Dhariyawad, Pratapgarh district. As per a report by Aajtak, the video is four days old and features a woman who is pregnant. The woman reportedly was having a love affair with a young man living in a nearby village. She eloped with her lover a few days before. When her family got to know about it, they chased the woman and caught her.

On catching the woman, the family brought the 21-year-old back to the village where she was assaulted. Not just the husband but other members of the family too were involved in the entire incident. Unfortunately, the video is disturbing to a limit that we won't be sharing it with this article.

Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot Reacts

As soon as the video went viral on social media, netizens started demanding strict action against the perpetrators. Soon, CM Ashok Gehlot took to his Twitter (now X) handle and wrote that he directed the director general of police to send the ADG (Additional Director General of Police- Crime) to the spot and take strict action in the matter. The woman's husband and two other people were interested today as per a report by Hindustantimes. Reportedly, the accused tried to flee when he got to know about the cops but got injured. He is currently undergoing treatment in Pratapgarh at a district hospital.

The incident soon turned into a political battle with the Bharatiya Janata Party calling out the CM government for being 'totally absent' in the case. BJP President, J. P. Nadda on Twitter wrote, "The video from Pratapgarh, Rajasthan is shocking. What is worse is, governance in Rajasthan is totally absent. The CM and Ministers are busy settling factional squabbles, and the remaining time is spent appeasing one dynasty in Delhi. It's no wonder the issue of women’s safety is being completely ignored in the state. Every single day, there is an instance of harassment against women. The people of Rajasthan will teach the state Government a lesson."

This isn't the first horrific incident coming from Rajasthan. Earlier, a 17-year-old girl in Rajasthan's Barmer district was allegedly raped at knifepoint. The accused also recorded a video of the heinous crime. As per police reports, the incident took place on August 29 when the minor was alone at home. I&B Minister, Anurag Thakur said in July that over one lakh crime cases against women were registered in Rajasthan in the last four years.

Where Is India Headed?

Crimes against women in India just don't seem to stop. With sexual harassment, molestation, cruelty, domestic violence, obscenity, and cases being reported among other crimes across the nation, we certainly have no glimmer of hope. Dreadful episodes make political leaders of the nation don their nemesis hats and eventually, there is no justice for the victim, perpetrators roam freely and end up believing that no matter what they do, they aren't going behind bars, thanks to the pendency in criminal cases across the nation.
