Just finished your favourite bottle of jam, but don’t feel like throwing it away? Well, glass jars can not only be used to store kitchen necessities but can also be utilised for home decor. The main problem most of us face here is the sticky label pasted on the glass jar. No matter how we try to remove it, the adhesive stays behind and spoils the whole look of the jar. If you wish to take out the sticky label in a neat and clean manner, here are some tips for you.

Start by dipping the glass jar in lukewarm water. Let it remain in it for a while and later try peeling the label. The label would be removed in bits and pieces, leaving behind sticky adhesive. Now add one tablespoon of baking soda and one tablespoon of oil in a bowl. Mix them together to form a liquid paste. Apply this all over the sticky gar and scrub gently. Once applied properly, leave it for 10-15 minutes. Now wash it off under running water with the help of soapy water. The stickiness of the jar will only be removed, if you wash it with soap.
Nail Polish Remover
The basic remover, which gets rid of chipped nail paint in a jiffy, can also be used to get rid of labels. The alcohol content in the remover is capable of breaking the adhesive bond between the label and glass. All you need to do is sprinkle a few drops of nail polish remover on a cotton ball and dab in on the label. Rub a little and let the label soak the remover properly. Cover the whole length of the label with the remover. Now start picking the label from one side and remove it in one go. The label will easily come out, without leaving any remains.
If you have removed the label from your glass jar but it still feels sticky to hold, then you can use this trick to clean it. All you need to do is take any essential oil and drop 2-3 drops on the jar. You can use tea tree oil, lavender oil, rose oil or any other essential oil of your choice. Rub it properly with the help of a rag. Keep rubbing it till you feel the adhesive wearing off. Make sure you wash the jar properly in order to get rid of the overwhelming smell of essential oils.

You can also place the glass jar in a bowl full of water and place it in the microwave. Put it in for 4-5 minutes and take the bowl out. Let it rest for a few minutes, as the hot water will help in loosening the grip of the label. After 20-30 minutes, take out the jar and pull off the label. As the glue melts, it will become much easier for you to remove the sticky label.
From removing turmeric stains from clothes to whitening dull clothes, vinegar can also be used to remove labels from jars. All you need to do is, dip a rag in white vinegar and squeeze out the excess. Now rub the glass jar with the rag, especially on the parts which are sticky. Rub for 1-2 minutes and let it rest for a while. Later on you can wash the jar with lukewarm water and soap to make it squeaky clean.
