India shone bright at the Academy Awards. Deepika Padukone took the Oscars 2023 stage to introduce a live performance of Naatu Naatu from SS Rajamouli's RRR. Can we have a round of applause for Deepika Padukone not faking her accent at the world's biggest stage? Naatu Naatu singers Rahul Sipligunj and Kaala Bhairava performed live with an energetic group of dancers. American dancer Lauren Gottlieb who appeared in Bollywood films as well was a part of the banging performance at the Oscars.

The Elephant Whisperers, helmed by Kartiki Gonsalves and produced by Guneet Monga, bagged the Best Documentary Short Subject at the Oscars this year. With this big win, the movie created history and became the first Indian film to bring home an Oscar in the said category.

Heartfelt Speeches At The Oscars

It was the night of the most coveted awards, and winners delivered moving speeches as they accepted one of the highest honours in the world. Ke Huy Quan who won the Best Supporting Actor for Everything Everywhere All at Once, got emotional. Quan opened his speech with, "My mom is 84 years old, and she's at home watching. Mom, I just won an Oscar!". He added, "I spent a year in a refugee camp and somehow I ended up here on Hollywood's biggest stage. They say stories like this only happen in the movies. I cannot believe it's happening to me. This, this, is the American Dream."

Kartiki Gonsalves, director of The Elephant Whisperers said, “I stand here today to speak on the sacred bond between us and our natural world. For the respect of indigenous communities. For entity towards other living beings, we share our space with. And finally for coexistence. Thank you to the Academy for recognising our film highlighting indigenous people and animals. To Netflix for believing in the power of this film. To Guneet my producer and my entire team and finally, to my mother, father and sister who are up there somewhere, you’re the centre of my universe. To my motherland India.”

Michelle Yeoh who took home the Best Actress Award from the Academy Awards dedicated the award to her mom and even sent across a message that one should never give up and let anyone tell you that you are past your prime period. During her acceptance speech, she said, "Thank you, thank you. For all the little boys and girls who look like me watching tonight, this is a beacon of hope and possibilities. This is proof that, dream big, and dreams do come true. And ladies don't let anybody tell you you are ever past your prime."
RRR Music Composer, M.M Keeravani gave his acceptance speech a musical touch. He first thanked the Academy Awards and shared that he grew up listening to the Carpenters and now is here at the Oscars. Next, he sung, ‘There was only one wish on my mind, So was Rajamouli’s and my family’s! RRR has to win, the pride of every Indian! And must put me on top of the world!' Watch his speech here -

All Quiet on the Western Front Bags Four Awards

German-language epic anti-war film based on the novel of the same name release in 1929, All Quiet on the Western Front won four Oscars on nine moninations for Best International Feature Film, Best Cinematography, Best Original Score and Best Production Design.

First Inclusive Oscars?

Other than the 'total banger' Naatu Naatu, unforgettable performances from Rihanna, Lady Gaga among others floored us. Interestingly, Lady Gaga's performance was last minute, it wasn't even slated for the event. Nonetheless, she nailed at the Dolby Theater stage. Gaga wiped her heavy makeup and switched to a regular black tee and ripped jeans. Gaga's minimal look is winning hearts over the net.
