Oscars 2023: A Big Moment Of Pride For The Nation As India Brings 2 Oscars Home

A big achievement for all the Indians as India wins 2 Oscars home. SS Rajamouli's RRR movie song Naatu Naatu won the Oscar for Best Original Song. The Elephant Whisperers won Best Documentary Short Subject. All That Breathes was also nominated for Best Documentary Feature Film but didn’t win, the award went to Navalny.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences hosted the much-awaited ceremony on March 12, 2023, at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles to present the 95th Academy Awards. From India, we had three nominations as well out of which two won the Oscars. SS Rajamouli's RRR song Naatu Naatu won the Oscar for Best Original Song. The Elephant Whisperers won Best Documentary Short Subject. All That Breathes was also nominated for Best Documentary Feature Film but didn’t win.

The song Naatu Naatufrom SS Rajamouli’s film RRR won the Oscars in the Best Original Song category. The song competed against Applause from the film Tell It Like A Woman, Hold My Hand from the movie Top Gun: Maverick, Lift me Up from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and This Is Life from Everything, Everywhere All At Once.

On the other hand, India’s short documentary ‘The Elephant Whisperers’ has brought home an Oscar in the Best Documentary Short Film category at the 95th Oscar Awards.

The award was given by Pedro Pascal. The other competitors in the Best Documentary Short Film category were Haulout by Evgenia Arbugaeva and Maxim Arbugaev, How Do You Measure a Year? by Jay Rosenblatt, The Martha Mitchell Effect by Anne Alvergue and Beth Levison, and Stranger at the Gate by Joshua Seftel and Conall Jones.

Director of the Tamil documentary Kartiki Gonsalves and producer Guneet Monga in the speech said, "I stand here today to speak on the sacred bond between us and our natural world." They also thanked the Academy Awards for recognising their efforts and appreciating the indigenous people and animals.

Kartiki Gonsalves made her directorial debut with The Elephant Whisperers. The film explores the relationship that forms between a couple and Raghu, an orphaned young elephant who was placed in their care.
