Ordering fresh fish online is an extremely easy option for someone like me who doesn’t have a non-veg market near my place. Additionally, for me, the quality and freshness matter the most. Thankfully, these five online fish delivery services were there. They rescued me every single time:
1) Dam Good Fish
Based in Gurugram, Dam Good Fish offers a variety of fish: freshwater, marine, freshly marinated, fillets/cubes, curry cut, prawns, whole and clean, and exotics. I ordered a slate of fish: marinated pomfret, rohu rui curry cut, rohu head cut, and tiger prawns (peeled and deveined). Since I went overboard with my ordering, I distributed it among my folks, and every single person loved the freshness and quality of the fish. The Bangalore-headquartered firm even has freshwater fish eggs to make machher borar torkari (curry with fish eggs), a quintessentially Bengali dish. I mostly order rohu for my machher jhol (fish curry) and fish head for chorchori (a dish that combines fresh vegetables, aromatic spices, and the head). FreshToHome oscillates between being medium fresh and being slightly rotten, but never to the extent that you cannot have it. In the majority of the situations, the batches were semi-fresh. You can order their fish from their site, app, or through other online portals.
4) Amazon Fresh
While Amazon Fresh, like its parent firm, has their own stock, they also have other companies in their database. In my initial days in Delhi, I used to order fish from Amazon Fresh and later veered towards other portals. Their mackerel, tilapia, and rohu were not disappointing but their prawns did a mediocre job. I would recommend them though.
5) Meatigo
Meatigo is mainly for meat, like chicken, pork, mutton, and related products like kebabs, sausages, etc. Their fish palette comprises seafood, from which I ordered prawns, pomfret, and fillet. The freshness was top-notch, but the fillet had a kind of strange smell because of the fish’s natural odour. If you can ignore that, you are good to go. They have a pretty website and an app from which you can order.
In the end, before ordering fresh fish online, consider factors like freshness (go for platforms that have a good supply chain), variety (platforms that have a variety of fish and seafood products), quick and reliable delivery services, and competitive pricing.
