Water is a necessity for life and it is crucial for your skin as well! If you drink less water and hydration is low then it immediately reflects on your skin. But if we drink only water, does that help with acne? Here is what an expert shared.
Dr Kaustav Guha, Head of R&D at SkinKraft Laboratories, told HerZindagi that "Water is responsible for maintaining your skin’s health in many ways. Hydrated skin is the key to keep acne, dryness, and blemishes away. Dehydrated skin is a welcoming sign for germs, bacteria, and pathogens to enter the skin since the skin’s protective barrier is down.
"Dehydrated skin also leads to loss of skin’s natural oils which the sebaceous glands then try to overcompensate by secreting more oils. This in turn leads to clogged pores, lower skin turnover, and acne breakouts. If you have a well-hydrated body, that not only helps in combating acne breakouts but it also helps in keeping the immune system strong. A well-hydrated body helps in keeping the micro-organisms in check.
"The microorganisms impact the health of the skin directly. Drinking enough water helps the skin’s natural detox system i.e. the liver, kidney, lungs and digestive system working towards flushing the toxins out of the body. This apart from other benefits also help in achieving even toned, supple skin that shows fewer signs of aging and dullness."
