Woman, Sexually Assaulted By Co-Patient At Delhi Hospital, Dies During Treatment; Death Cause Under Investigation

A woman who was sexually assaulted by a co-patient in Delhi hospital died later during treatment. The incident was quickly reported by the hospital staff to the police. The investigation is currently underway.

A chilling incident of sexual assault has surfaced in the national capital of India as a woman admitted to a Delhi hospital in an unconscious and intoxicated state was raped by a co-patient in the same ward. The woman, in her 20s, later died during the treatment on Wednesday, police said. Officials, however, said that her death may not be linked with the assault. The investigation is currently underway.

The victim, admitted to Jag Pravesh Chandra (JPC) hospital in Delhi passed away during the treatment after she was raped by a male patient in the same ward. According to officials, she was found in an unconscious and intoxicated state by her neighbours after which she was admitted to the hospital. “Initial MLC stated she was unconscious and intoxicated. Further action depends on autopsy,” Ashish Mishra, DCP (northeast) said. On Monday, the hospital staff alerted the police officials that she had been assaulted by a male patient in the same ward.

The Investigation For Death Cause Is Currently Underway

The cause of the victim's death is currently unclear. "We are awaiting the post-mortem report to ascertain the exact reason behind her death. We will take further action after that," said police. The incident was registered by the hospital staff at New Usmanpur police station. The accused, identified as Mohammed Faiz, a resident of Kachchi Khajuri in Delhi was arrested soon after the complaint was registered, a police statement said.

In early June, a 9-year-old was raped, murdered, and stuffed in a bag in Delhi.
