In today's digital landscape, cyber frauds are unfortunately common. There has been a sudden rise in frauds, identity theft, computer viruses, and scams lately and we are all constantly trying to stay vigilant against potential cyber threats across the nation.

In an inspiring tale from Shyam Nagar Mandi, Shobha Sharma underwent cyber security training to safeguard her loved ones from cyber threats. It was after Shobha's brother fell for a cyber fraud that she decided to embark on a journey of learning and empowerment by undergoing cyber security training.

"A cyber-fraud of ₹1 lakh with my brother shook me. I didn't know anything about online fraud; I felt helpless. I couldn't bear to see him suffer like that; I felt an urge to act on it. I realised I needed to understand the entirety of this cyber threat phenomenon, not only for my own sake but also for the well-being of my family and community. I didn't want anyone else to experience what my brother went through," she said.

During her search for resources to learn about cyber security, she learned about the Cyber Sangini programme. In a move to empower women in rural and semi-urban areas, OPPO India and CSC Academy collaborated last year to introduce Cyber Sangini, a cybersecurity and cyber wellness training program for women across the nation.

Understanding The Other Side Of The Digital World And Potential Threats

Like most people, Shobha also never thought that having access to a phone could put digital users at the risk of a cyber fraud till the time it happened at her home. She instantly realised how people from her background are more vulnerable to such fraud. "It's scary to imagine that through the emergence of new technology, people have access to our personal information through our phones or computers."

Using the internet was once all about convenience and staying connected for Shobha but then she got a real picture of internet advancement when her own family member was trapped. She realised how every good thing brings along danger. During her training, Shobha was empowered with knowledge and skills in cybersecurity and cyber wellness, trained on existing laws and frameworks to protect citizens from cyber crimes.

After getting a deep understanding of cybercrimes, risks involved, and potential consequences, Sharma further aspires to empower others to protect themselves against digital threats whilst using the electronic gadgets with ease. She wants to do it not just for herself, and her loved ones but her entire community.
