You can either start the renewal process one year before the expiration or three years after it expires. To avoid potential delays and ensure hassle-free travel, it's recommended to begin the renewal process at least nine months before expiration.

Steps to Renew Passport Online

Below are the steps to renew your passport online:

  1. Visit the Passport Seva website and register as a new user or log in with your existing credentials.
  2. Click on 'Apply for Fresh Passport/Re-issue of Passport' and select 'Click here to fill the application form.'
  3. Fill out the application, entering all the required information.
  4. Review and agree to the self-declaration.
  5. Submit the form and proceed to pay the passport renewal fees.
  6. Finally, schedule an appointment to complete the renewal process.

Documents Required for Passport Renewal

  • Original old passport.
  • Self-attested photocopies of first two and last two pages of the passport, page of observation (if any) made by the Passport Issuing Authority, and ECR/Non-ECR page.
  • Documents supporting the elimination of reasons for issuing a Short Validity Passport (SVP), if applicable.
  • Self-attested photocopy of the validity extension page of the SVP (if applicable).

Passport Renewal Fees

  • 36-page passport booklet with 10-year validity (additional booklet due to visa page exhaustion): ₹1,500.
  • 60-page passport booklet with 10-year validity (additional booklet due to visa page exhaustion): ₹2,000.
  • Minor's passport (below 18 years) with 5-year validity or until the minor turns 18 (36 pages): ₹1,000.
