Breaking his silence, the English singer and songwriter Harry Styles finally addressed the viral video doing the rounds on the internet. Did he spit on the American actor, and Don't Worry Darling co-star, Chris Pine at the Venice Film Festival? The viral video is from the premiere event at the Festival of the duo’s upcoming film Don’t Worry Darling also starring Florence Pugh, Olivia Wilde (also the director of the film), Gemma Chan, KiKi Layne, and Nick Kroll.
“This is our tenth show at Madison Square Garden. It’s wonderful, wonderful, wonderful to be back in New York. I just popped very quickly to Venice to spit on Chris Pine,” said Styles jokingly during his return to Madison Square Garden on the night of September 7, 2022.
“But fret not, we’re back!” he further added.

The 79th Venice Film Festival began on August 31 this year and will continue till September 10. During the premiere of the much-talked-about upcoming film Don’t Worry Darling on September 5, a video went viral on social media where Styles is seen to be walking up to the seat beside Pine. In the video, it appears that Styles spat on his co-star Pine right before sitting and the latter stopped clapping for a moment and looked down on his lap before looking surprised and smiling and going back to clapping again.
Following this, an array of wild speculations surfaced on social media. However, Pine’s representatives denied the incident and told Variety that it was a “ridiculous” story.
“This is a ridiculous story — a complete fabrication and the result of an odd online illusion that is clearly deceiving and allows for foolish speculation. Just to be clear, Harry Styles did not spit on Chris Pine. There is nothing but respect between these two men and any suggestion otherwise is a blatant attempt to create drama that simply does not exist.”
A source close to the Venice Film Festival also told Variety that neither was there any tension around the duo nor was any potential spitting incident flagged by anyone during the event.
This is the latest amidst a series of controversies surrounding Don’t Worry Darling, which received a four-minute-long standing ovation at the Venice Film Fest. Previously, there were rumours of an alleged fallout between the director of the film, Wilde and its lead actor Florence Pugh. However, Wilde mentioned during the press conference, “Florence is a force. We are so grateful she’s able to make it tonight [for the red carpet] despite being in production on ‘Dune.’ I know, as a director, how disruptive it is to lose an actor even for a day, so I’m very grateful to her, and to [‘Dune’ director] Denis Villeneuve for helping us. And we’ll get to celebrate her work tonight. I can’t say how honoured I am to have her as our lead. She’s amazing. As for all the endless tabloid gossip and all the noise out there, the Internet feeds itself. I don’t feel the need to contribute; I think it’s sufficiently well-nourished."
