Good Friday Date 2025
Good Friday falls in the month of April every year, two days before Easter. This year it is scheduled to be celebrated on April 18, 2025, Friday, followed by Easter on Sunday, April 20, 2025. Good Friday is a part of Holy Week, preceded by Monday, Thursday, and followed by Holy Saturday.
Good Friday History
It is believed that Good Friday commemorates the day Jesus Christ was crucified under the orders of Roman governor Pontius Pilate. The religious leaders of that time accused Jesus of blasphemy for claiming to be the son of God. Later, they bought him in front of the Roman governor and public trials were held. Followed by a public trial, Jesus was sentenced to crucifixion punishment which was given for most severe crimes. He was compelled to carry a wooden cross through the streets before being nailed to it. Ultimately, he died on the cross, an act which is believed by Christians to be the ultimate sacrifice for mankind’s sins. As per reports, he was crucified at Golgotha and died around 3 pm.

Good Friday Significance
For Christians, Good Friday is not a day to celebrate but a day of mourning, reflection, and repentance. This represents the depth of Jesus Christ’s sacrifice and hope of redemption. On this day, people observe fast, perform prayer, and do church services that recall Christ’s final hours and his death.
Several Christian communities organise special church services, scripture readings, and silent processions. On this day, Churches cover statues, dim lights, and muffle bells to reflect the dull tone of the day. People also observe fast and perform acts of charity. While this day marks the day of grief, it also leads to the celebration of Easter Sunday, which commemorates Christ’s resurrection and the promise of new life.
