When we think of south India, there are a couple of things that come to our mind, such as some of the best architectures, rich-culture, flavoursome spices, mouth-watering chutneys, and of course, the most healthy and scrumptious dishes. One such amazing dish is Mysore bonda. While it may resemble like vada or pakoda to others, the iconic snack is not made from lentils or veggies like them. People also like giving it a healthier twist, by adding wholesome vegetables in the batter. However, we will learn the authentic recipe of Mysore bonda. So, let’s get started!

Ingredients

  • ½ teaspoon cooking soda
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour (maida)
  • ½ cup rice flour
  • 1 cup yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped coconut
  • 1-inch ginger
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • ¼ cup cooking oil
  • 2-3 finely chopped green chillies
  • salt to taste

Step

  • Step 1 :

    Begin by making the batter. Take a bowl, add all-purpose flour, rice flour, cooking soda and salt.

  • Step 2 :

    Mix well and then add yogurt. Keep whisking until the batter becomes of light and fluffy.

  • Step 3 :

    Add 2-3 tablespoons water and keep mixing. Once done, keep it aside.

  • Step 4 :

    After 2 -3 minutes, add cumin seeds, coconut pieces, green chilies, and finely chopped ginger. Mix well, keep aside for another 10 minutes.

  • Step 5 :

    Place a wok on the stove, add oil and heat it on medium flame.

  • Step 6 :

    Once the oil is hot enough, make small balls of the batter and keep adding it into the oil.

  • Step 7 :

    Remove once it is golden brown in colour. Serve it with coconut or green chutney.
