Oats Idli is an easy Indian breakfast recipe that includes rava or semolina and oats. Instant oats idli, much like the popular rava idli recipe, is fast gaining popularity as we try to use oats more in our daily diets. Here is how you can make this quick and easy recipe.
Ingredients For Oats Idli
- 1 cup of uncooked oats
- 1/2 cup of rava or semolina
- 1 cup of thick plain yogurt
- 1/4 tsp of black mustard seeds
- 1/2 tsp of chana dal
- 2 tbsp of fresh coriander leaves chopped
- 3/4 tsp of plain eno salt or baking soda
- 1/2 cup of water adjust as needed
- 1 tsp of oil
- 2 tbsp of roasted cashew nuts optional
- Salt to taste

- Roast oats in a dry skillet over low heat until lightly browned and curled. Be cautious not to burn. Allow to cool, then grind into a fine powder and set aside.
- Heat oil in a pan and sauté mustard seeds and chana dal until golden. Add rava and roast for 2-3 minutes or until lightly browned. Mix in powdered oats, cashew nuts, salt, and chopped coriander.
- Transfer mixture to a bowl, let it cool, then add yogurt and water. Mix until thick batter forms. Add Eno salt; immediate bubbles will appear. Quickly pour into greased idli molds and steam for 10-12 minutes.
- For the best results, add Eno salt just before steaming, and avoid letting the batter sit for too long. Pre-boil steamer water in advance to enable immediate steaming, ensuring light and fluffy idlis.
- Enjoy warm oats idli with your choice of accompaniments and chutneys.
