Palak Paneer is a delicious and rich butter-based cottage cheese dish, which is cooked in creamy and healthy spinach gravy with the goodness of onion and tomato. This North Indian dish is very easy to cook and can be made whether for lunch or dinner parties, it’s up to you.

It is such a versatile dish that goes well with just anything - from roti to naan, or parantha to even rice. We can guarantee you, this restaurant-style Palak Paneer recipe will instantly palpitate your taste buds.

How To Make?

  • Start by preparing for the spinach gravy by plucking fresh and tender spinach leaves.
  • Put the leaves in a vessel and rinse them at least 4-5 times under running water. Drain the excess water.
  • In a pan, add some cooking oil followed by green chillies and spinach leaves. Saute them.
  • Blend the mixture while adding water and form a smooth paste.
  • Next, heat the oil and butter in the kadhai.
  • Add cinnamon, cloves, cumin seeds, cardamom, and saute them.
  • Then, add onion and fry till it turns golden brown.
  • Saute ginger-garlic paste, garam masala, and tomatoes till they turn soft.
  • Pour water and cook covered until onions are completely soft.
  • Add kasuri methi and pureed spinach. Mix them well and cook until the dish begins to bubble.
  • Then, add paneer cubes and mix well.
  • Garnish the Palak Paneer with fresh cream and enjoy!

Ingredients

  • 150 grams of Paneer
  • 4 cups of Palak (Spinach)
  • 1 medium-sized onion (finely chopped)
  • 2 small tomatoes (finely chopped)
  • 2 tablespoons of fresh cream
  • 1 tablespoon of cooking oil
  • 1 tablespoon of butter
  • 4 cups of water
  • 1 teaspoon of ginger-garlic paste
  • 2 green chilies
  • 1/2 teaspoon of garam masala
  • 1/2 teaspoon of cumin seeds
  • 2 green cardamoms
  • 1-inch cinnamon
  • 2 cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon of dried fenugreek leaves (kasuri methi)
  • Salt to taste

Step

  • Step 1 :

    First, start by plucking only fresh and tender spinach leaves and cutting all its stems to avoid the bitter taste.

  • Step 2 :

    Then, take a vessel filled with water and rinse the spinach leaves at least 4-5 times. Completely drain the water and press the spinach to remove any excess moisture. 

  • Step 3 :

    Now, heat 1/2 tablespoon of cooking oil in a pan.

  • Step 4 :

    Once the oil starts to heat, add green chillies and spinach leaves. Saute them for 4-5 minutes. Make sure that the raw smell of spinach has gone away.

  • Step 5 :

    Cool the mixture and then blend it with 3-4 cups of water and form a smooth and thick puree. Keep it aside.

  • Step 6 :

    Next, in a large kadhai, heat 1 tablespoon of oil and 1 tablespoon of butter and once they melt, roast the spices (cinnamon, cloves, cumin seeds, and cardamoms), till they turn aromatic.

  • Step 7 :

    Further, add 1 onion and saute till it turns golden brown.

  • Step 8 :

    Then, saute ginger garlic paste for 1-2 minutes.

  • Step 9 :

    After that, add 2 chopped tomatoes and saute till they turn soft and mushy.

  • Step 10 :

    Add 1/2 teaspoon of garam masala and salt as per your taste. Saute for about 2 minutes.

  • Step 11 :

    Now, add 1/2 cup of water and cook covered until onions are completely soft. Also, adjust consistency as required.

  • Step 12 :

    On low flame, add kasuri methi and pureed spinach that we prepared earlier. Mix them well and cook until the dish begins to bubble. This process usually takes 3-4 minutes so keep an eye on that.

  • Step 13 :

    Further, add paneer cubes and mix well. Simmer for 4-5 minutes or till the paneer absorbs the flavour.

  • Step 14 :

    Turn off the flame and garnish the Palak Paneer with cream.

    Serve your delicious Palak Paneer hot with garlic naan, roti, or jeera rice.
