Tomato Peanut Chutney

1. To make this chutney, start by heating some oil in a small pan. Add asafoetida, peanuts, onions, and roughly chopped garlic and ginger. Mix everything for a few seconds until the onions soften and the flavours mix.

2. Next, add in a few curry leaves, chopped tomatoes, salt, and Kashmiri chilli powder. Let this cook until the tomatoes become soft and everything is well combined.

3. Once the mixture is ready, transfer it to a blender and blend until smooth. Make sure non’t add any water, keep it thick and rich for the best texture.

4. For the tadka, heat a little oil in a separate small pan. Add mustard seeds, urad dal, and a few curry leaves. Let it cook until the mustard seeds crackle and the dal turns golden brown. Now carefully pour the hot tadka over the chutney.

5. Then transfer the chutney to a bowl and serve it with Idlis or crispy Dosas.

Ingredients

  • 4 tablespoon oil
  • 1/2 cup peanut
  • 1 small onion
  • 1/2 inch chopped ginger
  • 1 teaspoon asafoetida
  • 4-5 chopped garlic cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 2 teaspoon urad dal
  • 1 tablespoon Kashmiri chilli powder
  • 4-5 tomatoes
  • A handful curry leaves
  • Salt to taste

    Then add curry leaves, tomatoes, salt, and Kashmiri chili powder. Cook until the tomatoes soften and everything combines.

  • Step 3 :

    Now transfer the mixture to a blender and blend until smooth, without adding water for a thick consistency.

  • Step 4 :

    For the tadka, heat oil in another small pan. Add mustard seeds, curry leaves, and urad dal. Cook until the seeds crackle. Pour this hot tadka over the chutney.

  • Step 5 :

    Serve the chutney in a bowl with Dosa.
