Made with boiled potatoes, vrat-friendly flours, and spices, this dish is light yet filling, which is perfect for those observing Sawan fast or other fasting days. Vrat Aloo Tikki Recipe
Vrat Aloo Tikki are crisp, golden potato patties made specially for fasting days like Sawan and are also a staple in every Indian household. They’re prepared using boiled potatoes, fasting flours like kuttu or singhara, and mild spices. Here is a quick Vrat Aloo Tikki recipe by Chef Ranveer Brar, and you can find this recipe on this YouTube channel too.
How To Make Vrat Aloo Tikki
1. In a bowl, prepare the filling, mix together grated coconut, rock salt (sendha namak), sugar, chopped cashew nuts, peanuts, and chopped green chillies. Mix everything well, then set it aside.
2. In another bowl, prepare the dough by adding the vrat flour (like kuttu or singhara), mashed potatoes, and rock salt. Knead everything with your hands until it forms a smooth, soft dough. Keep it aside for shaping.
3. Take a small portion of the potato dough and flatten it gently in your palm. Place a spoonful of the nut and coconut filling in the centre, then carefully bring the edges together and seal them.
4. Once sealed, gently press the patty into a round, flat tikki shape. Roll it in some desiccated coconut so it’s nicely coated all over. Repeat the same for the rest of the dough and filling.
5. Heat a little ghee in a frying pan. Place the tikkis in the pan and cook them on medium heat until both sides turn golden brown and crisp.
6. Once they’re done, take them out and serve hot with curd or vrat chutney.
