How To Make Tomato Shorba

1. Start by heating oil in a pan. Once the oil is hot, add a bay leaf, cumin seeds, and cinnamon stick. Saute them for about a minute until they release a fragrant aroma.

2. Next, add ginger garlic paste to the pan. Saute it for about a minute until the raw smell disappears and the paste becomes slightly golden.

3. Now, add the pureed tomatoes to the pan. Let the mixture simmer on low heat for 4-5 minutes, allowing the tomatoes to cook and thicken a bit.

4. Add red chilli powder, coriander powder, and turmeric powder. Stir the mixture well and cook for another 1-2 minutes to allow the spices to blend and release their flavours.

5. Pour in some hot water and mix it well. Let it cook on a simmer until it reaches a boil.

6. Season with salt and black pepper powder as per your taste. Mix everything well, garnish with freshly chopped coriander leaves, and serve hot.

Ingredients

  • 4- 5 medium tomatoes (puree)
  • 1/2 ginger garlic paste
  • 1-inch cinnamon stick
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chilli powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1/2 turmeric powder
  • 1/2 crushed black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 ½ cups hot water
  • 1 tablespoon chopped coriander leaves
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • Salt to taste

Step

  • Step 1 :

    Add bay leaf, cumin seeds, and cinnamon stick in a pan with some oil and mix it well for a few minutes.

  • Step 2 :

    Add after a few minutes add ginger garlic paste and saute for 1 minute.

  • Step 3 :

    Add pureed tomatoes and cook on low flame for 4-5 minutes.

  • Step 4 :

    Now sprinkle red chilli, coriander powder, and cumin seeds then cook for 2-3 minutes.

  • Step 5 :

    Then add hot water and cook the soup until it boils.

    Season with salt, and black pepper, and garnish with chopped coriander, and it is served hot.
