The fashion industry never fails to surprise us by bringing back age-old styles and turning them into a trend in no time. The century-old apparel, ‘dhoti’ which was usually worn by men is now all the rage among women. From draping a dhoti-style saree to pairing it with short kurtis, the charm of dhoti pants is winning among women of all ages. However, hopping on the trend doesn’t mean you need to spend on shopping. With a no-sew, quick and easy process, you can seamlessly turn your old saree into dhoti pants, perfect for any occasion.

Materials For Converting Saree Into Dhoti Pants

Since this is a no-sew process, there’s no need for any marker, scissors or sewing machine. You just need to get a silk saree or any other crease-free saree of your choice that allows you to make clean pleats. Also, make sure the saree has a wide border at the bottom that enhances the look of your dhoti. You can choose a preferred colour to get started with the process.

Steps To Converting Saree Into Dhoti Pants

Here is the step-by-step guide to turning your old saree into dhoti-pants:

saree

Step 1: Before beginning with the process, make sure you are wearing leggings and have an elastic waistband in place to tuck in the saree. Once you have chosen the right saree, grab it around the waist so its centre sits on the back of your waist. Now, grab cloth from either side of the saree and make a knot in front of your belly.

Step 2: Now take one end of the saree and wrap it around your leg from the inside. Stretch the saree a bit so it’s properly wrapped around your leg. Now start making four clean pleats and tuck them neatly on the back. Grab the remaining cloth from the fall and gather the remaining fabric. Now neatly tuck it inside and manually correct the imperfections if any. Repeat the same with the other end of the saree.

Step 3: Once you are finished, you can see the saree giving a proper dhoti look with neat pleats on either sides. You can secure the ends with safety pins if needed. Pair it with ethnic jutis, any short kurti or a traditional jacket to complete the look. Further accessorise with jumka and bracelet.
