Many people in today's world are beginning to understand the idea of sustainable living. Ahimsa silk is one such material that promotes a sustainable environment. Few people know what happens to the worms that generate silk, one of the most beautiful natural fabrics out there. People tend to think that in order to adapt to eco-friendly living, everything must be changed totally. This may be accomplished, though, by making tiny adjustments at different levels and making our planet a more beautiful and greener place to live in.
Ahimsa silk is made using a nonviolent breeding and harvesting process. The domestic type is not bred; instead, wild silk moths are. Unlike most silk harvesting methods, which call for killing the silkworms while they are still in their cocoon stage, it permits the silkworm to complete its metamorphosis and reach the moth stage.
Kusuma Rajaiah, a technical officer for the Andhra Pradesh State Handloom Industry, is considered the inventor of Ahimsa Silk or Ahimsa Peace Silk. Ahimsa Silk's premise is that the cocoons will only be utilised to extract silk once the worms have transformed into moths and emerged from the cocoons making this cruelty-free. Ahimsa silk is just as strong as conventional silk and has a gentle feel to the touch.
This distinctive silk version still doesn't enjoy full recognition. In comparison to other silks, the adoption of Ahimsa silk is rather slow. Customers are more likely to choose expensive, semi-silk, or synthetic fabrics over glossy silk fabrics.
