Expert Shares 6 Foods You Shouldn't Miss Eating During Summer Season

During the summer season, it is important to consume foods which are light on the stomach to prevent digestive issues.

As we are moving towards the hotter months of the year, our daily diet plans deserve a shift. With the temperatures rising, it is crucial to dig into foods that are cooler and have higher water content. 

If you don't change your diet during the hot months, you should because our body undergoes a lot of changes and they should all be met with a diet that is in sync with the summer season.

We spoke to Nutritionist, Dr. Rohini Patil and asked her to share some inputs on the need to change our diet during the summer season. She said, " The food we eat in the summer season should be carefully thought about keeping in mind various factors. One should be careful while eating extremely spicy, hot, heavy, and fried food as it may lead to various health concerns like diarrhea, indigestion, dehydration, loss of energy, and tiredness among others."

We further asked the nutritionist to share foods we should not skip eating during the summer season.

1. Homemade Curd Or Buttermilk

The expert shared that curd and buttermilk help us keep cool during the hot and humid weather. Both curd and buttermilk are packed with calcium and protein and also contain probiotics. Drinking these helps in improving the digestive system. Adding ingredients like cumin powder, black salt and fresh mint leaves further helps in boosting digestion and keeping your gut cool. 

2. Amla Or Indian Gooseberry

A rich source of Vitamin C and fiber, amla or Indian gooseberry is a must-have in the summer season. Amlas can be consumed raw, boiled or in the form of juice. To make amla juice, chop amla into small pieces. In a blender, add amla and some water. Blend and strain. Add honey and ice to taste. Enjoy the refreshing drink on a hot summer day. 

3. Sprouts

Steamed sprouts should be a part of your diet this summer season. They contain a good amount of water and are also easy to digest. They can be consumed alone or in the form of a salad.

To make a sprout salad, add ingredients like pineapple, boiled sprouts, pomegranate, and cucumber to a bowl. Sprinkle salt and black pepper. Squeeze some lemon juice. Mix well and enjoy!

4. Coconut Water

Along with water, you should also sip on coconut water throughout the day. It is rich in vitamins, minerals, potassium, and magnesium in its natural form which is much needed by the body during the summer season because of sweating and dehydration. 

5. Water Fruits

Fruits that have high water content like watermelon, muskmelon, oranges should be consumed in good quantity during the summer season. These fruits keep you hydrated throughout the day. Also, the fruits are packed with vitamins, minerals, and fiber. You can prepare a fresh fruit salad for brunch everyday. Just chop all the fruits, squeeze some lemon juice and enjoy!

6. Sweet Corn

Sweet corn is a good source of vitamin A, B, C, E, fiber, and minerals which are all great for our overall health. Sweet corn can be consumed in different ways during the summer season. Steam sweet corn and prepare a salad along with veggies like bell pepper, tomato, zucchini, and cucumber to make a tasty salad. You can also have boiled corn with salt and pepper as a quick snack.
