Mount Kailash is considered one of the holiest sites in the world. Resting at the heart of the mighty Himalayas, Mount Kailash is believed to be the celestial abode of Lord Shiva (the destroyer within the Trimurti tradition).
The mountain has profound religious and spiritual significance for Hindus, Buddhists, Jains, and Tibetans alike. Interestingly, the popular Kailash Mansarovar Yatra started in June 2025 after a pause of 5 years. The pilgrimage was suspended in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Run by the Ministry of External Affairs, the yatra is between June and September and lasts for about 23 to 25 days and includes a demanding 45-km walk.
