Mohan Raj, popularly known by his stage name, Keerikkadan Jose, died in his home at the age of 70. Reportedly, the Malayalam actor was undergoing treatment for various ailments at his residence in Kanjiramkulam, before passing away on Thursday. Raj was popularly known for his iconic villainous role as "Keerikkadan Jose" in the Mohanlal-starrer film Kireedam.

A Look At Mohan Raj’s Career

Mohan Raj is widely known as the most iconic villain of Malayalam cinema. With an illustrious career of over three decades, Raj has given remarkable performances as an antagonist, leaving an indelible mark on Malayalam film industry. Some of his notable works include Uppukandam Brothers, Chenkol, Aaram Thampuran, and Narasimham, among others.
Raj has performed in 300 films to this date, in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, and Japanese language. Kazhumalai Kallam was his first film in Tamil.
Mohan Raj’s Demise: Condolence Messages
With the news of Raj’s demise, many notable figures came forward to give their condolences. While Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and State Cultural Affairs Minister Saji Cheriyan expressed their deep sorrows, Mohanlal, who portrayed the lead character Sethu in Kireedam took to his Facebook to share a heartfelt note. He said, “To be called and recognised by the name of a character is a blessing that only an artist who has achieved the pinnacle of acting can receive.”
He further added, Our beloved Mohan Raj, who portrayed the immortal character Keerikkadan Jose in Kireedam, has left us. I remember his grandeur standing in front of the camera, facing off against Sethu, as if it were yesterday. With tears in my eyes, I bid farewell to my dear friend, who maintained goodness and humility in his personal life.”
Raj last appeared in the Mammootty film ‘Rorshach’ in 2022 after which, his health deteriorated and he remained at home. He used to live with his wife Usha and daughters Jaishma and Kavya. The last rites will be performed on Friday in the state capital.
