Brooklyn Nine-Nine Star Andre Braugher Dies At 61; Here's Trivia About The Actor

Andre Braugher, the Emmy Award winning actor who is best known for his roles in the series, ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ and ‘Homicide: Life on The Street’ has died at the age of 61-years-old. The actor’s publicist, Jenner Allen confirmed the news that the ‘Last Resort’ actor died after succumbing to a shirt illness.

The actor who was born in Chicago had his first breakthrough role in the year 1989 in ‘Glory’ in which he starred alongside Morgan Freeman and Denzel Washington, who won an Academy Award for the movie which revolved around all-black army regiment during the American civil war.

Despite his part, he was quoted saying to The Associated Press in 2019 that he struggled to find work in Hollywood where roles were not offered for African American actors which were “few and far between. Period.”

• Andre Braugher is best known for his role as ‘Captain Raymond Holt’ on the comedy series featuring police procedurals, ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ from the year 2013 until 2021. He was also known for his portrayal of ‘Detective Frank Pembleton’ on the NBC drama, 'Homicide: Life on the Street'.
• In 1998, Braugher won a lead actor Emmy for his role as "Detective Frank Pembleton in 'Homicide: Life on Street'. In the year 2006, he won a second Emmy for playing the heist crew leader Nick Atwater in the FX mini-series ‘Thief’.
• Mr Braugher’s first Hollywood film was in the 1989 film ‘Glory’, where he starred opposite Matthew Broderick and Denzel Washington. He played the role of ‘Thomas Searles’ who was a free Black man who joined the first Black regiment.
