Sleeveless dresses, cute mega sleeved tops or any kind of exposure of your elbows can be embarrassing. It speaks a lot about your hygiene and a negative impression is the last thing we want. So here are some tips to clean and brighten those elbows you probably have been ignoring while bathing. 


Apply some curd on the dark elbow and let it dry. Wash it off with warm water and this will moisturise your skin and lighten it over regular usage. 

Baking Soda & Milk

This is said to be a very good remedy however do this just twice a week. Mix the two ingredients together and scrub it on the dark area in a circular motion. Leave it on for 15 minutes. This helps in getting rid of dead skin and milk helps in moisturising.

Squeeze some fresh lemon juice and rub it gently on the dark skin in a circular motion with some cotton. Let it sit for 15 minutes. Wash off and you will get lighter skin with regular usage as lemon has bleaching properties. 

Sugar And Olive Oil

Scrubbing well is excellent for getting rid of the skin which has become tough and is dead on your elbows. Rub the mixture of the two for a few minutes and your skin will be softer and look cleaner. This can be done everyday while bathing.


Now, this remedy is also used to get rid of suntan. Apply some tomato juice on your elbows and let it for 20 minutes to do its job. It refreshes the skin, lightens the colour over regular usage. 

Sliced Cucumber

Easily available in your fridge or at the vegetable market, cucumbers are your body's best friend. They are not only great for weight loss but they also have a lot of water content which helps the body in keeping it cool as well. Not just that, cucumber slices are great for lightening and moisturising your skin. 

Turmeric, Milk & Honey

Turmeric is the king of spices that our ancestors have depended on for ages. The antiseptic properties in it when combined with the bleaching properties of milk with the support of moisturising honey, is perfect to lighten dark skin tone. Keep the paste of the three for around 20 minutes and then rinse it off. Do this regularly if the test patch goes fine.

Papaya is a great source of antioxidants with bleaching properties which works amazingly well on the dark elbows and knee areas. All you have to do is rub a slice of papaya or some pulp on the skin for a few minutes, let it sit for 10 minutes and wash it off. Do this thrice a week.

Potato juice is well known for lightening dark under-eye circles. Potatoes have bleaching agents which help in controlling the melanin production in the cells. The presence of Catecholase enzymes in potato juice helps in reducing the appearance of dark spots. All you have to do is massage the raw slices or strained juice with cotton, all over the dark areas in circular motions and let it sit for 4 minutes. Then wipe it off with a cloth. Apply a lotion and do this every day.
