Dr.Blossom Kochhar, Chairperson Blossom Kochhar group of Companies, says that if you have a dry skin, it is really important that you take very good care of your skin especially during this season and if not treated well it can lead to various skin troubles. So today, I would like to share few easy home remedies to soothe your dry skin.
First, you need to identify if you have oil dry or moisture dry skin, so your skincare routine should have both nourishing and moisturising routines. A dry sensitive skin needs to be cleaned nicely with cleansing milk or cream, remember to use an alcohol- free cleanser to remove the cream. After the cleansing, the skin needs a lubricating emollient or moisturiser.
The moisturiser should be applied on a damp skin or after you have used a toner. A good toner for a dry skin would be rosehip toner or even rose water can be used as a toner. In case you don’t have your cleansing cream and toner with you right now, I will give you an easy cleansing pack that you can make at home.
Take 1 cup lukewarm milk, add 1 teaspoon glycerine, a quarter teaspoon of bicarbonate soda, and a quarter teaspoon of borax. Mix them together in a bowl, apply this with cotton, leave it for 15-20 minutes and then rinse it off.
Another pack that you can use is, in a bowl put 12 tablespoons of white Vaseline and add 4 tablespoon of baby oil. Warm these two together, add 2-3 drops of rose essential oil, if you have one and store this in a jar. Use this to clean your face in the morning or a night with damp cotton. You can also use this to remove your make-up.
Now that you have cleansed your skin thoroughly it’s time to moisturise your skin. Moisturising a dry skin is really important if not done correctly and continuously it can lead to flaky skin. So always remember to moisturise your skin.
Take 1 tablespoon of honey, add 1 tablespoon of honey and add a squeeze of lemon. Mix it all together, apply it on a clean face, leave it on for 10-15 minutes and then rinse it off. This is specially for moisture dry skin.
Those who have oil dry skin a nourishing pack is your best friend. To make a nourishing pack, mash 1 banana in a bowl, add a teaspoon of any vegetable or olive oil to it and add 2 drops of rose or lavender oil. Apply the pack and leave it on your skin for 20 minutes and then rinse it off with normal water. Use this pack once a week to see visible results.
Few tips that people with dry skin need to remember –
- Do not use an astringent on your face, always use a non-alcoholic toner.
- Avoid harsh winds and hot baths. It makes your skin further dry and harsh.
- Always use oil-based cream
- Do not use any medicated or any kind of soap on your face, rather use a good cleanser.
- Use a moisturiser regularly and do not forget to wear a sunscreen even when you are at home. When at home use SPF 15 sunscreen and when out in the sun use a 30 SPF sunscreen.
- Another thing to remember is, do cleansing toning and moisturising twice a day.
Follow it religiously.
