The celestial spectacle of the year is set to captivate sky gazers worldwide! The Total Lunar Eclipse 2025, also known as the Blood Moon, is a rare event that may pose some concerns for pregnant women. According to our expert, Dr Virender Sahni, the Total Lunar Eclipse can have a profound impact on expectant mothers, affecting their physical and emotional well-being. In this article, we'll delve into the dos and don'ts that pregnant women should follow on Blood Moon night. Dr Sahni is an Astrologer, Vedic, KP, Naadi, Numerologist, and Tarot Card Reader.
Dr Sahni said, “The Total Lunar Eclipse on March 14, 2025, also known as the Blood Moon, carries strong astrological significance, especially for expectant mothers. In Vedic astrology, the Moon governs emotions, the mind, and bodily fluids, and when it is overshadowed during an eclipse, it can bring about fluctuations in energy levels. Pregnant women are believed to be more sensitive to these planetary shifts, which is why certain traditional guidelines have been followed for generations to ensure the well-being of both the mother and the unborn child.”
“Now, scientifically, eclipses are just celestial events, but astrology looks at them from an energetic and karmic perspective. The Moon is deeply connected to pregnancy, as it rules over the water element in our bodies. During an eclipse, this energy is disrupted, which is why certain precautions are suggested to balance things out,” he added.
What Pregnant Women Should Do During a Lunar Eclipse?
First and foremost, staying indoors is always recommended. The idea behind this is that the eclipse is an energetic reset, and pregnant women should avoid direct exposure to that sudden shift. While inside, engaging in spiritual practices like chanting mantras can be very beneficial. The ‘Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra’ or ‘Santaan Gopal Mantra’ is believed to provide spiritual protection.
“It is also advisable to keep Tulsi (basil) leaves in food and water. In Vedic traditions, Tulsi is a natural purifier and is said to counteract any malefic planetary influences. Another simple practice is placing a silver coin near the stomach or in clothing, silver has been associated with calming lunar energies,” shared the astrologer.
He continued, “Once the eclipse is over, a purification bath is recommended. Many traditions suggest adding Gangajal (holy water) or rock salt to bathing water, as it is believed to remove any lingering negative energy.”
What Pregnant Women Should Avoid During a Lunar Eclipse?
“One of the most common beliefs is to avoid looking at the eclipse directly. This stems from the idea that celestial disturbances can impact the developing baby. While this is more of a traditional view, many still follow it as a precaution,” said Dr Sahni.

You are also advised to avoid using sharp objects like knives or scissors. “In Vedic astrology, this is linked to preventing any birth-related complications or scars. Similarly, eating or drinking during the eclipse window is not recommended, as the energy during this time is considered unsettled. Ayurveda also suggests that digestion slows down during an eclipse, which is another reason many cultures advise against consuming food during this period,” he explained.
Another point is not sleeping during the eclipse. It is believed that being awake and aware during such times allows one to channel the energies better. Instead of sleeping, meditation or engaging in spiritual practices can be helpful.

“Lastly, keeping a calm mindset is crucial. The Moon rules emotions, and an eclipse can bring a surge of emotional energy. Pregnant women are encouraged to stay away from stressful situations, arguments, or negative thoughts. Instead, focusing on positive affirmations and visualising a healthy and happy baby can be a beautiful way to channel this time,” concluded the expert.
