In this article, we will share detailed insights on this topic shared by our expert, DrArchika Sudhanshu, Spiritual & Meditation Guru.

Understanding Prakriti

Understanding Prakriti: The Key to PersonalisedWellness

Dr Sudhanshu said, "Ayurveda is the ancient Indian system of medicine, which provides insight into the different levels of health and wellness for the individual. It comes from a unique constitution, Prakriti, that determines susceptibility to diseases and response to treatments, representing overall health. This allows an understanding of why certain yoga practices or diets work like magic for some people but not so well for others."

The Three Doshas: Vata, Pitta, and Kapha

"Prakriti entails a combination of three essential energies, or doshas: Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. The nature of Vata is related to movement, air, and ether; Pitta represents fire, water, and transformation; and Kapha represents earth, water, and structure. Everybody has a specific combination of these three doshas that his or her body portrays, which impacts his or her physical, mental, and emotional qualities," she explained.

How Prakriti Impacts Physical, Mental, and Emotional Qualities

Dr Archika shared, "Knowing your Prakriti helps tailor your well-being practices. For example, 'grounding'practices such as tree pose or mountain pose yoga may refresh a predominantly Vata constitution as well, showing stability and strength. These practices help to balance out a tendency toward restlessness and anxiety in people. Similarly, Pitta prakriti can be cooled by cooling practices, such as meditation and Pranayama, due to its fiery nature."

PersonalisedDietary Choices Based on Prakriti

"Similarly, dietary choices can be personalisedbased on Prakriti. Individuals with a Vata constitution may benefit from incorporating warming and grounding foods like cooked grains, soups, and stews into their diet. Pitta individuals may get relieved by cooling foods like fruits, vegetables, and dairy products. Such lighter, stimulating foods like spices and bitter greens will be beneficial for Kapha individuals," added the expert.

Lifestyle Modifications for Balance and Health

"In addition to specific yoga practices and diet-related selectivity, Ayurveda refers to life-style modification in pursuit of establishing balance and health. For instance, individuals with a Vata constitution may benefit from regular routines, early to bed and early to rise, and avoidance of cold, dry conditions. The Pitta person would find relief by avoiding excessive heat, spicy diets, and intense activities," explained Dr Sudhanshu.

She continued, "Kapha individuals may benefit from incorporating more physical activity, reducing sedentary behavior, and avoiding excessive indulgence. By making conscious lifestyle choices aligned with their Prakriti, individuals can enhance their overall well-being and create a harmonious relationship with their bodies."

Dynamic Nature of Prakriti

"Worth noting is that Prakriti, or nature, is not a fixed property. It fluctuates with diet, lifestyle, and environment. Nevertheless, knowing one's constitution gives one a useful framework by which good choices about wellness practice can be made," said Dr Archika.

"he concept of Prakriti offers a profound explanation for why certain yoga practices or diets work wonders for some but not for others. It is quite evident that through the understanding of one's constitution, people can fine-tune their wellness routines to optimisehealth and well-being," concluded the expert.
