Shardiya Navratri Day 4: Chaturthi Date

According to the Hindu calendar, the Chaturthi Tithi begins at 7:49 AM on October 6 and ends at 9:47 AM on October 7. This day is dedicated to Maa Kushmanda, and it is considered highly auspicious to perform her puja during this time.

Shardiya Navratri Day 4: Who Is Maa Kushmanda?

Maa Kushmanda is the fourth form of Goddess Durga and is believed to have created the universe with her radiant smile when the world was enveloped in darkness. She is depicted with eight arms, holding various divine objects like a kamandal, lotus, chakra, gada, bow, arrow, nectar-filled pot, and a garland. Her vehicle is a lion, and she is closely associated with the colour yellow. Devotees believe that worshipping Maa Kushmanda brings light, and health, and removes all obstacles from their lives.

Puja Samagri For Maa Kushmanda Puja

To perform the puja for Maa Kushmanda, you will need the following items:

  • Kumkum (vermilion)
  • Mauli (sacred thread)
  • Akshat (rice)
  • Yellow clothes
  • Yellow sweets
  • Ghee
  • Dhoop (incense sticks)
  • Chandan (sandalwood paste)
  • Malpua (sweet dish as bhog)

Puja Vidhi For Maa Kushmanda Puja

On the fourth day of Navratri, wake up early in the Brahma Muhurta (before sunrise), bathe, and dress in yellow clothes as it is believed to please the goddess. Follow the Maa Kushmanda puja ritual as follows:

  1. Begin the puja by worshipping the Kalash (sacred pot) and performing the rituals for Goddess Durga.
  2. Offer vermilion, flowers, whole rice, and a garland to Maa Kushmanda’s idol.
  3. Light a ghee lamp and incense sticks.
  4. Chant Maa Kushmanda’s mantra 108 times while focussing on her divine form.
  5. Recite the Durga Saptashati or Durga Chalisa to invoke her blessings.
  6. Offer Malpua as bhog, as it is believed to increase confidence and bring the goddess's blessings.
  7. Conclude the puja by offering water in front of her idol, symbolising the completion of your offering.

Maa Kushmanda Puja Mantras

To invoke Maa Kushmanda's blessings, chant these mantras during the puja:

  • Ain Hree Devyai Namah: Vande Varishti Kamarthe Chandrardhakrit Shekharam. Sinharudha Ashtabhuja Kushmanda Yashasvinim.
  • Om Aim Hreem Kleem Kushmanda Namah

Reciting these mantras with devotion will remove all negativity, bring prosperity, and purify the mind.
