Netflix has officially confirmed the renewal of its popular Indian romantic comedy series The Royals for a second season. The streaming giant announced on May 28, 2025, just weeks after the original season premiered on May 9, 2025, to widespread acclaim and global trending status.

The announcement comes at a particularly busy time for lead actor Ishaan Khatter, whose recent projects have been generating significant attention across multiple platforms. His film Homebound, co-starring Janhvi Kapoor, recently received a remarkable nine-minute standing ovation after its special premiere at the Cannes 2025 red carpet event.

The Royals Season 2 Expected Star Cast

While Netflix has kept specific casting details under wraps, industry sources suggest that the original ensemble cast will likely reprise their respective roles in the upcoming season. The cast includes Ishaan Khatter and Bhumi Pednekar as the lead couple, alongside veteran actresses Sakshi Tanwar and Zeenat Aman, plus Nora Fatehi and Vihaan Samat in supporting roles.

Netflix India's official Instagram handle made the renewal announcement with an intriguing caption that read, "Old money, new blood and a new season is in the works. The Royals Season 2 is coming soon, only on Netflix."

The Royals Season 2 Storyline

Series creator Rangita Pritish Nandy has shared exciting insights about what viewers can expect from the second season, promising an even more elaborate production than the original.

"Season 1 of The Royals was our love letter to the romcom genre; palaces, polo races, midnight masquerade balls, fort-top romps and raves—love at its most chaotic and charming. That struck a chord and trended globally. This told us just one thing: we had to come back for more," Nandy explained in her statement following the renewal announcement.

"We are thrilled to team up with Netflix for a second season that's going to be bigger, bolder, and even more fabulous. Expect more fire, more feisty banter, and yes, a whole lot of drama. Because in our world, the crowns may be metaphorical—but the chaos is royally real," she added, promising fans an elevated viewing experience.

About The Royals

The romantic comedy series, directed by Priyanka Ghose and Nupur Asthana, centres around a financially struggling family navigating modern India's complex social landscape.

The narrative begins with the introduction of Aviraaj Singh, nicknamed 'Fizzy' and portrayed by Ishaan Khatter, who serves as the heir of Morpur. This character setup establishes the central tension between traditional royal expectations and contemporary financial realities that many Indian families face today.

The renewal of The Royals represents part of Netflix's broader strategy to expand its Indian content portfolio. Notably, the streaming platform has also renewed several other popular Indian series, including Mismatched for a fourth season, Black Warrant for a second season, and Maamla Legal Hai for its second season.
