The much-awaited teaser of ‘Thama’ finally dropped on August 19, 2025. Maddock Films, the studio that shaped India’s horror-comedy universe, shared the teaser with the caption, “Na darr kabhi itna shaktishaali tha, aur na pyaar kabhi itna BLOODY! Brace yourself this Diwali to witness the first love story in the Maddock Horror-Comedy Universe.”

Directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, ‘Thama’ stars Ayushmann Khurrana, Rashmika Mandanna, and Nawazuddin Siddiqui. The film, produced by Dinesh Vijan and Amar Kaushik, is set for a Diwali 2025 theatrical release.

But while the festival of lights is still a few months away, fans of horror comedy don’t have to wait to get their dose of laughter and scares. Here’s a list of five films you can revisit before ‘Thama’ hits the big screen.

Munjya

Aditya Sarpotdar’s ‘Munjya’ combines folklore, music, and supernatural drama with a comic twist. The story follows a young man whose trip to his ancestral village awakens a vengeful spirit tied to his family’s past. Featuring Abhay Verma and Sharvari alongside Sathyaraj and Mona Singh, the film balances spooky tension with laugh-out-loud moments.

Stree

Amar Kaushik’s ‘Stree’ (2018) redefined the horror-comedy genre in Bollywood. Set in the fictional town of Chanderi, the film tells the tale of a mysterious witch who preys on young men at night. With Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor in lead roles, the film cleverly mixes satire, folklore, and scares, becoming both a critical and commercial hit.

Bhediya

Starring Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon, ‘Bhediya’ explores shapeshifting myths inspired by Arunachal Pradesh’s folklore. The story of a man cursed to become a werewolf weaves environmental concerns with supernatural thrills. As the second instalment in Maddock’s horror-comedy franchise, the film carries forward the universe that now welcomes 'Thama'.

Bhool Bhulaiyaa

Priyadarshan’s ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa’ (2007) remains a cult classic. Featuring Akshay Kumar, Vidya Balan, and Shiney Ahuja, the psychological-horror-comedy mixes mystery, haunting, and humour seamlessly. Now available on Netflix and Disney+ Hotstar, the film continues to be a fan favourite more than a decade later.

Go Goa Gone

India’s first zombie comedy, ‘Go Goa Gone’, blends witty banter with edge-of-the-seat horror. Starring Saif Ali Khan, Kunal Khemu, Vir Das, and Anand Tiwari, the story follows three friends stranded on an island during a zombie outbreak. With its stoner humour and sharp writing, the film has become a cult pick for fans of quirky horror.

With ‘Thama’ gearing up for a grand Diwali release, Maddock Films looks ready to expand its horror-comedy universe once again. Until then, these films on OTT are the perfect way to revisit the blend of fear and fun that Bollywood has mastered in recent years.
