After the success of ‘Mamannan’ (2023), which marked a new phase in Vadivelu’s career under director Mari Selvaraj, actor Fahadh Faasil and comedian-turned-actor Vadivelu came together again for ‘Maareesan’. This latest collaboration, directed by Sudheesh Shankar and produced by Super Good Films, hit theatres on July 25, 2025. The film opened to positive reviews but struggled to make an impact at the box office.
Joining the lead pair were Kovai Sarala, Vivek Prasanna, Livingston, Renuka, and PL Thenappan, among others. The music was composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja, while the screenplay was penned by V Krishna Murthy.
Maareesan OTT Release Date Confirmed
Streaming giant Netflix announced that Maareesan will premiere on August 22, 2025. The film will be available not only in Tamil but also in dubbed versions of Malayalam, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi.
Confirming the news, Netflix India shared, “Get in, guys, we are going to Thiruvannamalai. Watch Maareesan on Netflix, out 22 August in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam!”

Maareesan Storyline
‘Maareesan’ follows the story of a man, played by Fahadh Faasil, who deceives an amnesiac Vadivelu to take control of his property. The film explores their unusual relationship, emotional confrontations, and the consequences of betrayal.
Presented as a light-hearted road movie at first, the film shifts gears into a tense thriller. The narrative takes inspiration from the classic 1957 Mayabazar song ‘Aaha Inba Neelavinile’, which plays a symbolic role in the journey. From scenic rides to moments of chilling suspense, the film attempts to balance comedy, drama, and thrills.
Maareesan Box Office Performance
Despite positive word-of-mouth and strong performances from the lead cast, Maareesan could not convert reviews into numbers. According to Sacnilk, the film opened with ₹75 lakhs on its first day. Within six days, the total collection stood at ₹4.54 crore.

Alongside Fahadh Faasil and Vadivelu, the ensemble cast included:
- Vivek Prasanna as Fahadh’s friend
- Kovai Sarala and PL Thenappan as cops
- Livingston, Renuka, Sithara, Saravana Subbaiah, Krishna, Telephone Raja, and Haritha in supporting roles
The film’s production was backed by Super Good Films, while music director Yuvan Shankar Raja added emotional depth to the story with his compositions.
While Maareesan underperformed at the box office, its OTT debut could give the Fahadh Faasil–Vadivelu starrer a second chance to connect with audiences.
