Inspired by a true story, Dying For Sex has been described as "hilarious, sexy, and unfiltered" by the makers. The account is of Molly's, Boyer's best friend, who shared in the latter's podcast about her bold decision after she got detected with Stage IV breast cancer. She decided to quit her unhappy marriage and embark on a spree of sexual adventures to feel invigorated.

The trailer for the series, which was released on March 18, 2025, offered this exact plot. It started with a bewildered Nikki (Jenny Slate) asking Molly (Williams) how and why she had no good orgasm ever in her life, to which the latter replied that when she got close, a sound akin to a "little sneeze" was all that came out. Nikki understood Molly never had a fulfilling intimate session.

In the following frames, we see that Molly's cancer is back and she feels that despite being young, she has not had many life experiences. "I've never had an orgasm with another person," for one, which makes her realise her marriage wasn't worth retaining.

Eventually, she leaves her husband, feeling liberated, and decides to take control of her sexual life, venturing on kinky adventures, helped by Nikki and others. The sequences that come next are both hilarious and emotional with Williams owning every frame of the trailer.

The very story of Dying For Sex is so freeing that you feel and root for Molly and want her to be unshackled of all her woes.

The FX series will consist of 8 episodes and apart from Slate and Williams as main characters, Dying For Sex also has Rob Delaney (Deadpool), David Rasche (Sledge Hammer!), and Esco Jouléy in the recurring cast.

Jay Duplass (The Puffy Chair, Cyrus, and Jeff, Who Lives at Home), Kelvin Yu, and Sissy Spacek (Last Call, HBO series Big Love) complete the team of characters for Dying For Sex.

Dying For Sex: Williams, Duplass Talk Their Sex Scenes

Given the premise, Dying For Sex will comprise several funny and eye-popping sex scenes. Talking of one such with Delaney, Williams told Gold Derby, "It's something only the two of us will share. I've never done scenes like that before, and he's never done scenes like that before. This is like a common bond and common memory that we’ll be able to return to."

As mentioned before, Molly leaves her husband and unhappy marriage after the big C returns. And since their intimate life wasn't that promising, presumably the scenes between Williams and Duplass' Steve would be awkward and lack feelings.

Narrating one such, Duplass said to the portal, "After she gets diagnosed with cancer the second time, I am very busy making her a green smoothie, chopping broccoli, and she's trying to seduce me, and I am steadfastly trying to avoid having sex with that person, which is insane! But it makes me giggle when I see it."

Dying For Sex hits FX on April 4, Thursday, and will be available to stream the following day on Hulu and Hulu On Disney+.
