Criminal Justice season four episode seven opens with a dream sequence where Madhav Mishra imagines cross-questioning Anju Nagpal, showcasing his inner turmoil and the pressure he's facing. Once in court, Mishra’s defence begins with the questioning of Ira’s doctor, attempting to show that Roshni, despite being a nanny, was more invested in Ira’s wellbeing than Anju, the child’s mother. His aim is to build sympathy for Roshni and indirectly question Anju’s maternal instincts.
Next, Mishra questions Raj about a video where he is seen kissing Anju. Mishra uses this to suggest that Anju wanted to reconcile with Raj, but he rejected her, turning the emotional narrative around to put doubt on the prosecution’s storyline and to pin the crime on Anju Nagpal. Just when it seems like the defence is struggling to gain ground, Ratna (Madhav Mishra’s wife) and her brother uncover a crucial lead, Roshni’s last-known transaction at a store near Qayammat Bar. This indicates her final location before her death, giving Mishra evidence about Roshni’s last location being near her ex-fiance, Digvijay’s regular hangout spot.
Mishra then calls Digvijay to the witness stand, initially hoping to shift the focus onto him. However, this plan doesn't go entirely as expected. Digvijay testifies that Raj mistreated Roshni that night and had expressed interest in restarting his relationship with Anju, information that raises questions about Raj's possible motive and emotional state. The episode ends with a new mystery, a medicine bottle found in evidence, adding another layer of suspense.
