The BET Awards 2025 marked a special celebration as the ceremony reached its 25th year of honouring the best in Black entertainment and culture. The event happened at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles on Monday, June 9, 2025, bringing together music stars, actors, and athletes for what many call culture's biggest night.
Kendrick Lamar Leads with Wins and Nominations
Rapper Kendrick Lamar led the pack this year with 10 nominations. He won Best Male Hip Hop Artist, Video of the Year for ‘Not Like Us’, Album of the Year for GNX, and Best Collaboration for ‘Luther’ with SZA. He also shared the Video Director of the Year award with Dave Free.

Doechii, SZA, and Drake Also Steal the Spotlight
Doechii took home Best Female Hip Hop Artist. SZA, who had four nominations, won Best Female R&B/Pop Artist and shared the Best Collaboration win with Kendrick Lamar.
Although Drake was nominated for six awards, he didn’t lead the winner count but remained one of the night’s biggest talking points due to his multiple nominations across major categories. Other artists with strong showings included Future, Metro Boomin, and Chris Brown, with Future and Metro Boomin winning Best Group, and Chris Brown named Best Male R&B/Pop Artist.

Film, Sports, and More Recognised
Outside of music, Cynthia Erivo and Denzel Washington were honoured as Best Actress and Best Actor, respectively. The film Luther: Never Too Much won Best Movie, while the YoungStars Award went to Blue Ivy Carter.
In sports, Angel Reese was awarded Sportswoman of the Year, and Jalen Hurts took home Sportsman of the Year. Summer Walker won the BET Her Award for ‘Heart of a Woman’, while GloRilla, Kirk Franklin, and Maverick City Music shared the Dr Bobby Jones Best Gospel/Inspirational Award for ‘Rain Down on Me.’
