- Rose saplings or grafted rose plants (easier than seeds for beginners)
- Large pots (at least 12 inches deep) or space in your garden
- Well-draining soil (a mix of garden soil, compost, and sand works best)
- Organic compost or cow dung manure
- A watering can or pipe
- Neem oil (to prevent pests)
- Gardening gloves and pruners (if needed)
Which Rose Colour To Grow And What to Buy:
- Red roses – Go for varieties like Mr. Lincoln, Taj Mahal, or Eternal Flame. These are rich in colour and bloom well in India.
- Yellow roses – Choose Gold Medal or Sunsprite. They’re bright and grow well in sunlight.
- Pink roses – Queen Elizabeth or First Prize are popular and very pretty.
- White roses – Iceberg is a great choice. It’s easy to grow and blooms often.
- Orange roses – Tropicana is a good option for warm climates.
- Lavender or purple roses – Blue Moon is a rare variety, but you can find it online on sites like Ugaoo or NurseryLive.
Most of these plants are available at local nurseries or on gardening websites in India.
Best Time to Plant Roses in India:
The ideal season is from October to February, especially in North India. In South India, roses can be planted almost all year round except during peak summer.
Easy Steps To Grow Roses Of All Colours:
1.Pick a sunny spot – Roses need at least 5 to 6 hours of sunlight daily.
2.Use good soil – Mix garden soil, compost, and some sand so water doesn’t stay logged.
3.Plant carefully – Place the rose sapling in the soil, cover the roots well, and water gently.
4.Water regularly – Water every 2–3 days, or when the top soil feels dry.
5.Feed your plant – Add compost once a month. Use rose fertiliser or bone meal every few weeks.
6.Trim and clean – Cut off dry or yellow leaves and faded flowers to help new ones grow.
7.Protect from bugs – Spray neem oil on leaves every 10–15 days to keep pests away.
